NFL season starts with activism as opening sees low ratings and fan backlash

Opening night was the second-worst season kickoff for the NFL’s viewership since 2009

LINK

The first weekend of the NFL was marked by widespread social justice activism as a lack of fan interest led to a near-record ratings collapse.

More than four years after Colin Kaepernick became better known for bending his knee than his elbow, players across the league knelt, linked arms, or remained in their locker rooms during the national anthem.

According to preliminary ratings, viewership was down 12.3 per cent from the 2019 kickoff game, with 19.3 million this year compared to 22.12 million last year. That's just above the nine-year low of 19 million viewers from the 2018 season opener between the Eagles and Atlanta Falcons, the worst since 2009 according to Deadline.

If more people are at home due to government forced Covid shut down and economic sanctions.....shouldn’t TV ratings be through the roof?

Following a long hiatus in sports. Does not bode as well as it could for millionaire sports ballers.

I will say this I was watching redzone all day and the anti-racism social justice crap was all pretty minimal. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting.

Except for the fact that TV ratings have continued to disappoint throughout COVID.

People just don't watch TV as much, but the NFL has it's own problems. Not denying that.

Movie theaters are still not open in most states; restaurants and bars are only partial capacity. They should have a bigger audience.

I think some of the broadcast networks have asked their reporters to tone that down.

I honestly only watched the NFL to see former LSU players.

The Saints and Drew Brees can frick right off.

Oh so they are taking the “It is just 14 days to flatten the curve” strategy.

You weak arse cucks will be marching in a few weeks saying oh this is more calm than I thought and somewhat peaceful.

Iys wasn't overbearing at all. They didn't even mention it past the kickoff. People are overreacting

How about we just not mention it all? Fairly simple
