A member of the church, Todd Zureick, said they saw images from a laptop that contained “thumbnails to pornography sites and links to multiple virtual reality role-playing sites involving pornography, sexual assault, group sex, rape, and occult themes,”

quote:

“Please take a second. We want to put these rumors to rest. Can you answer this for me … fact or fiction,” McQuaide said, according to WCPO.

When someone at the altar tried to tell the long snapper that it wasn’t the right time for this interaction, McQuaide, who said he saw the images of the computer, reportedly replied: “I’m sorry, sir, this is the time and the place. I will stand up. … Did the priest use our parish computer to look at pornography? … true or false. … I am not trespassing.

quote:

McQuaide, a two-time Pro Bowler, was escorted out by Green Township police officers, who were asked to be at the church in case of disruptions

Capt. Mitch Hill told The Enquirer that McQuiade was not detained nor charged with a crime.

Archbishop Casey said Bachman has a planned sabbatical from July that is not related to the allegations.

As someone raising kids in the church I applaud folks who stand up against Catholic apolgists for bad actors. Faith does not mean acceptance of what a bad Catholic says or does.

It was hard to understand what this thread is about and what happened based on what you quoted. Maybe provide a few more details? A better subject / thread title?

Like the first paragraph in the article? Or the title of the article?

quote:

An NFL long snapper was escorted out of an Ohio church by police during a contentious scene over the weekend as parishioners sought answers about rumors and accusations that one of the priests had viewed pornography on a church computer.

Maybe I'm just being nitpicky...

So, McQuaide called them out during mass? I’m confused about who asked police officers to be there in case of a “disruption.”

Sounds to me like they either had a meeting regarding the congregations concerns or the church declined to address the matter so he stood up in Mass and asked about it. If the Church had security present because they expected an interruption, then shame on them for not addressing it.

The guy is 100% in the right to ask and the entire congregation should have walked when they took him out. Completely unacceptable.

And to the above reply, you are correct. The OP gives more questions than answers.

Apparently this priest was also the subject of a sextortion scam: LINK

ANd do not be quiet when the PHONY faithful try and shush you for questioning the politicians who infest the church and who allowed child rape and to this day have not been held accountable.

You can look at pornography at your house, but you cannot do it here.

Why? If it is a sin at church, it's a sin at your house. A preist should not be actively participating in sin. I don't understand this statement.

This is why we have elders. And congregations who vote.

Yeah-I agree.

A priest is a priest. He doesn't step out from under his rites when he goes "home," which is a residence generally owned by the parish and that the parishioners are financially supporting.

Seems like your problem. I am still their main source of guidance and will always urge them to question things. But the ideals that many in management of the church ignore are still a good base of morality.

I mean, looking at porn on a company computer is stupid and grounds for termination pretty much everywhere. But, I think holding a priest to a different standard of “sin” is not typically appropriate. Not every parishioner is a priests boss, just like we are not the bosses of teachers and policemen. We all sin. If the porn is legal in nature, I personally think it’s between him and God (or employer), and probably not appropriate to call out during a service, regardless of the circumstances.

Churches rely on donations and attendance. You want to hit them where it hurts? Find another church. Catholic Church didn’t really fit for my family to the point we were no longer going. Young kids and rough work schedules. We went to another Christian church that’s been in the community for 30+ years and think we are all getting a lot out of it. Point being, I don’t have any problem with the Catholic Church per se, but I can recognize they are a bit stale and clearly have people not cut out for the clergy, I think a lot of us have this cultural connection to it that’s almost an obligation (like poor culture in a way) - there is plenty to criticize - I just don’t worry about this anymore and happy I’m going to church more often again.

Church is so scary they try to teach you lessons about being nice to people and humbling yourself. Definitely don’t want my kids to hear any of that or be another potentially positive influence on them. We do iPads on Sundays and then force my hobbies on them, if we have time.
