What's your opinion on the statues?
That's not something that I'm passionate about either way. You won't find me demanding that a statue get torn down.

Fine. It's only a nickname. It's not like it's the official name. As I've stated already, just call the song by its actual name like most people already do.

KEY BACKGROUND
After James Weldon Johnson and his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson, composed the song in 1900, it took hold among many Black organizations. It became the official song of the NAACP, who named it the Black national anthem, in 1919.

"Lift Every Voice and Sing," often called "The Black National Anthem," was written as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson and set to music by his brother, John Rosamond Johnson.
CNN Article

For more than a century, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” has held a powerful place in American history. The hymn is known as the Black National Anthem, but it’s more than that.

You just quoted 3 different places that basically states what I've already acknowledged. It's a nickname. It was written in a time where black people needed a unifying song.
Even still, at it's core it's a Christian hymnal that anyone can sing. The Star Spangled Banner was written in a time of war where we were trying to gain our independence. That isn't the context anymore, but it's still a good song to sing, reminding us of the past and where we came from. Lift Every Voice is the same way. Black people have the rights that we dreamed of when the song was written in 1900s, but it's still a good song to sing, reminding us of how far we've come.
Perhaps it offends you that Black people ever needed a unifying song in this country. I can't help you with that. History is dark. That's what it is.

You should know by now the media does things to piss people off. And look at this thread, clearly they have once again succeceded.
The media is making the NFL play a song that is specifically targeted towards black americans?
I only see the media reporting the news and telling us that this song is known as the "Black National Anthem"
Unsure how this is the medias fault?

Yep, there were some dark times in our History.
But compared to the world, we dabbled in slavery and got out pretty quickly , since then spending trillions of dollars to make amends for that dark time.
Additionally, many people gave their lives trying to make amends and UNIFY the country, only to have the NFL and the people behind the "Black National Anthem" spit in their faces by trying to continue to segregate us.
The push behind this is nefarious and anyone who can't see that is an idiot.

Yep. A separate anthem, but an equal one. But we're the racist ones for calling this out.

Again, you can sing the song. Nobody said you are not allowed to sing the song. The song is a unifying song. Y'all are just mad at how the song came to be.

Meh.
Didn't even need another reason not to watch it.

I think the word you were looking for was "stereotyping". It's different than racism.

I won’t be watching.
I’ve quit watching pro sports since the 1994 MLB strike.
bullshite like this affirms I made the right decision.

Haven't watched this over-hyped game in seven years. Doesn't sound like I've missed anything.
