The song was literally written in a way so that anyone could sing it.
I think the point you are not engaging with, for whatever reason, is the song being used in this instance is clearly quite divisive when looking at peoples thoughts online. Ever since the death of Floyd, it's seems to have been used as some sort of pandering/white guilt song.
I don't see how purposefully playing the "black national anthem" is supposed to make non-blacks feel anything but weird. Sure, we can sing it -- but with the current usecase of it being the "black national anthem", I don't feel too unified. Maybe if they just sung it without having that label behind it and said, "this is a song for all americans" things would be somewhat different.

That's the question you should have asked black people in 1917.
You mean the people who had no rights and were fighting to survive. There was definitely a need for a black national anthem at that time.

So relics of segregation times are cool for blacks... neat

Then call it Lift Every Voice and not the Black national anthem
That's exactly what they do. When it's being prepared to be sung at any type of event, very rarely is it ever referred to as the Black National Anthem. They just call it "Lift Every Voice and Sing". Which is the actual name.

I mean the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful were also written during dark times of our country. That doesn't mean the songs need to be eliminated.

The actual headline in the WSJ.

NFL Announces 'Black National Anthem' Will Be Performed at Super Bowl by Andra Day

i don't give one shite about this i just want to watch a football game. i don't give a shite about the original national anthem either

The actual NFL referred to it as Lift Every Voice and Sing. Here you are getting offended because of the media.

Do you literally know anything about the song or the history of it? Because it has nothing to do with trying to divide anyone.
It also, by the very definition of words, is not a "national" anthem. Period. Calling it such is fantasy.

Sorry my friend. I believe in honoring, learning, and growing from history. Not just ignoring and forgetting about it because it's uncomfortable.

Fine. It's only a nickname. It's not like it's the official name. As I've stated already, just call the song by its actual name like most people already do.

It’s referred to as the Black national anthem by the vast majority of the media. But go ahead and keep rooting for segregation. And don’t be late for your next klan meeting

What's your opinion on the statues?

I wonder how many people will boycott. I’m sure it’ll kill the SB ratings like so much.
Take a stand America! End wokism. Is that the buzzword we still use?
Some people have no principles they stand up for and stick to. I haven't watched NFL football for 5-6 years now, including the superbowl. Doubt I ever waste another minute of my life watching the NFL.
