Malls have to be going the way of blockbuster IMO.

Because they got rid of arcades.

Honestly what "mall" is doing good in the state of LA?

The country?

Malls have to be going the way of blockbuster IMO.

Lakeside mall in Metairie has to be one of the best performing traditional malls in the South , if not the country.

I remember when Esplanade was the good mall and Lakeside was the crappy mall.

Just doesn't sound very conservative to spend all that money in rent when you already have a building you own.

Lakeside is one of the best performing malls in the country. Just answered two of your questions with one answer.

Not on the surface.

But how much more money in sales tax revenue could Esplanade Mall bring in with the additional traffic to the mall that City Hall would bring? Also, how much money would Kenner stand to lose if the mall keeps dying its slow death and eventually closes all together?

Not saying they should jump headfirst into relocating City Hall to Esplanade...but it seems like an idea that at least is worth looking into more.

Esplanade is a shite show and has been such since at least Katrina.

I used to have fond memories of there but the last few times I went there was little left besides anchors such as Old Navy.

Kenner outgrew their city hall 25 years ago, that's why the police dept built their own place by Loyola and Vets.

Having a new city hall in a building large enough to house multiple agencies, actually makes a lot of sense. If it can also help reboot some commerce in the area, all the better.

That Macy's building, however, I would imagine would require a significant renovation cost. So much, that I wonder if it would be cheaper to just build from the ground up.

I've often thought if they should just bulldoze the entire mall and turn the area into some sort of town square. You could have city hall, offices, city court, retail, some outdoor concert areas, etc.

Someone check and see if the owners of the Macy's building have given any contributions to the florist.

I have no idea if this is a good idea or not for Kenner, but Lexington had the chance to buy an empty mall and move all of city services to it. Building was already there, parking, everything. They didn't do it because the council wanted a "new" building.
I hate wasting taxpayers dollars.

Most malls are owned by one or two companies. Lakeside mall is "independently owned".
