Soemthing like 40k Alabama fans came for the event yesterday.
This thread has stretched on for however many pages over 8-10 people having their windows broken during the game.
Not trying to discredit that broken windows and crime are issues, but trying to keep perspective.

Some of us regret having to leave and are bitter about it.
NOLA is not perfect, but it’s home. There are lots of ugly and wonderful places around the world. Louisiana is lucky to have several.

Not sure what perspective you think is lost but I don't think that nobody is traveling to the city. Yeah, the city sees millions of travelers a year. People will flock for Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, concerts, conventions, etc. I am not saying the travel and tourism industry is dead. The Sugar Bowl is a large event for the city so of course it will bring tens of thousands of visitors but issues like yesterday, at the Pelicans games, in and around the CBD at other events is a significant contributor to an even larger crowd and more money into the revenue stream.

I get that. At times it does sadden me....like I said earlier I have friends who own and run business there and wish I personally felt better about the state of the city. NOLA is a very different place and the love that people have for it runs deep, as deep as I have ever seen for any city that I have ever traveled to or met people from. Reminds me a bit of Boston. The city is part of the person not just where they live.

This is 100% my daughter's opinion also. She told me she will probably not move back but she will always pretend it is an option. Her heart can't take it not being an option.

Some people need to organize an effort to go park at these events and just lay down in their cars and wait. Soon as they smash your window blow their head off. Self defense, he tries to forcefully enter your vehicle.

Dude laid up in the morgue today had that mentality yesterday in front of Frey's.
Easy to say online, harder to execute with two guns on you.

The difference between New Orleans and the other cities mentioned is New Orleans doesn’t have one nice area that is safe. Birmingham, Houston, and even Jackson have areas to retreat to.
Birmingham’s “suburbs” are next do downtown and their kids go to great public schools whereas in Orleans you pay absurd taxes for nothing and 20k+ for the top schools.

A guy was killed at 11am by the Winn Dixie on Carrollton. Apparently it was a carjacking gone bad.

In terms of suburbs, they are hideously ugly compared to other large metro suburbs like Atlanta, Nashville, and Birmingham. Metairie and the Westbank is just ugly and old janky looking, and their public schools still suck unlike the other suburb metros listed above

Honest question to the NOLA residents on the board: How do y’all feel about your new Police Superintendent?
