Dorian's stall was just brutal. It just raked for hours. Being in a Cat. 5 is one thing, being in it for hours is unfathomable.
We will never know the true death toll from Dorian.

That storm was packing a punch for sure. There was one Dorian video taken by a guy living in a concrete bunker type house that was just amazing... but it's no longer available.
Another good video example of why to evacuate a storm that strong is this 1min clip of Irma hitting St Maarten in 2017. It's the last gasps of a beach cam before it gets destroyed.

I know some people from the Bahamas who were talking about how different the construction preferences were down there basically saying locals build with concrete blocks and only have to worry about storm surge and roofs whereas most Americans go stick built and end up much more exposed to wind situations.
Obviously concrete block construction limits options from a build perspective but it was very interesting.
