Get a Cybertruck no transmission, no ICE to worry about. Only fully made American truck.

nothing sudden here. this has been a problem since mid 2000s orv whatever. however, a simple device that turns off dod eliminates this issue.
Turning off the DOD/AFM system via the Range device or a tune can buy you time but it absolutely does not eliminate the issue entirely.
The lifters can, and do, physically fail whether the system is active or not.
The only 100% fix is to remove the problematic lifters from the engine with a DOD delete kit.

Did you do it your self or have a shop? If shop how much did they charge?
I did it myself. It is pretty straightforward as far as auto trans service goes.
Ford is a little unrealistic on their check level temp (probably impossible to hit just idling) so most say to fill it running just below the proper indicator mark when cold.
Check out Ford tech Makuloco on youtube.
Also the only approved fluid is Mercon ULV, pretty cheap at Rock Auto.
ETA: It is common for people to find the transmission is underfilled from the factory. I often wonder if that can be the root of a lot of end user problems.

I also had a 19 lariat. Love the way it looked. Had problems from the start. Transmission had rough shifts - downshifts could be like getting rear ended. They flashed the memory 3 times under 10k miles. It finally did better but was never smooth.
At 80k miles, it developed problems with camshaft positioning solenoids that caused it to run rough and shut off at idle. Spent a bunch to get that diagnosed and fixed only to have it still not right. After fix it would only do it after long interstate drives. So mechanics could not reproduce and fix problem.
I just traded into a 2025 Tahoe with the 5.3. So far and with less than 2k miles, it’s great. Transmission is as smooth as silk and the 5.3 seems to have much more pep than my ford 5.0. Ford did have better interior styling, but GM is currently nailing exterior styling. The new Chevy and GMC trucks and Tahoe/Yukon are way better looking than their Ford equivalents.

I've got a 2017 150 with the 10 speed transmission and I believe the 5.0 motor.....125k miles and no issues as of yet
Now that I've posted this it'll fall to pieces tomorrow

quote:My company just added a bunch of new Dodge extended cabs to the fleet. In general it seems like they have a lot of issues, but that could be guys just bitching. OTOH, our garage manager loves them—said they’re pieces of crap, and he’s got guaranteed work for the foreseeable future.
stay away from the new Rams

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra.
I have loved the truck but it's had issues with starting on occasion that the dealership can't diagnose, tends to happen when it's very hot outside.
Google my gm truck won't start when hot. <-- or something similar. My truck was doing this, there was info about starters going bad this was a tell.
Purchased a new starter at NAPA all good to go now. The only tricky part is the plastic wire connection. Tip is to spray the connection with Kroil or another good oil & wait for 15 - 30 minutes. You should be good to go, oh and if it's the original starter the two bolts holding it on are torqued pretty tight use a 1/2" drive instead of 3/8"

2019 F150 5.0 and 10R80 went out at 55k. Truck was in the shop for nearly a month for warranty repair. The parts list was 3 pages long.

The 10R80 and 10L80 are essentially the same transmissions. The issues these transmissions are having is either in the valve body (poor lubrication) or the CDF drum. Engine wise the Ford 5.0L is impressive and least likely to have failure. GM's 5.3 would be my second choice I would stay away from the 2.7L V6 Ford and GM and the 6.2L V8 in GM. Would not touch a Ram unless it was a diesel.
