It’s a no-fault, no-consequences country now. A secretary embezzled about $60,000 from our company. We had her red-handed. The Tulsa DA worked with us through about three years of delays then made a deal without us knowing - no criminal charges, no reimbursements, NOTHING! Stealing pays, baws! She got to keep the $60K!

When I worked at Winn Dixie 8 years ago in high school, they specifically told us not to stop shop lifters because it could lead to lawsuits. This isn’t anything new and I’ve had to watch people walk out with $100s of groceries

I asked the manager of the local Walmart here once how much they lose to theft every year. He said he didnt have an exact number, but total shrink for that one store was over $1 million. And this is a relatively small store in BFE Western North Carolina. Crazy.

Worked at a music store in the late 90s. Watched a kid a couple of years younger than me put about 5 CDs in his pants and walk out. Our store was right next to the food court entrance so he was outside in a few steps. I chased him down and tackled him. Mall security came and took him to the mall office.
I went back inside my store with a scraped knee that was bleeding through my jeans. Got sent home and was feeling good about what I had done. The next day our GM came in and nearly fired me. Said the lawsuits weren't worth the trouble.
So this isn't something new, grab and go with no repercussions.
