Dorignacs and zuppardos had similar signs for years as well but as busy as they are - not major
They are both AG I think, which is a big retail-owned distributor in Baton Rouge. They service small chains and independent stores between Mobile and Houston....and a lot of the offshore and boats in the Louisiana ports.
South Louisiana is very friendly towards independent grocery stores. That's not always the case in other parts of the sunbelt/south. Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette are stacked when it comes to small independent stores.

Shoplifters fixin' t'eat and I wish the Business Report would stop calling that area north Baton Rouge; it's not. However, I suppose the younger folks consider anything north of Florida as "north" Baton Rouge.

Most of north Baton Rouge is considered a food desert and the area has struggled to attract a grocery store for years.
I wonder why that is ??
There was a Piggly Wiggly at the corner of N. Donmoor and Florida the shoplifters stole blind. The store closed.

they're going to have to hire 3 or 4 full time workers just to pick up mcdonalds bags in the parking lot
Rouses will definitely incur these expenses during the year before having to close the store:.
Since they are attempting to cater to a broke, thieving, littering clientele, the following.
1. Many full time staffers JUST to pick up litter from their parking lot
2. Parking lot security guards
3. In store security guards to monitor theft
3. grocery cart replacements

Boarded up Albertsons at North Sherwood and Fla has been shuttered for two plus decades now..
Was always major shrinkaged, and a few times where it was held up.
Fla Blvd from the "River to Range" is a long depressing blighted ride.
Kudos to Rouses and whatever Federal/State initiatives made this attempt possible, hope it succeeds.

Most Piggly Wiggly's in south Louisiana closed because they were not particularly well run and suffered against competition from Wal Mart, Albertsons, Winn Dixie, or the more established local stores.
Not saying that they didn't have shoplifting issues that close to Melrose East back in the day, but Hi Nabor has been operating on Winborne and Airline for longer than I've been around. They are still doing well. So is Tony's Seafood. And both of them are in worse neighborhoods than where Rouses is going.

Tony's, Krispy Kreme, and BR Airport are about the only three things I cross Fla Blvd for..for years now.
Cafe Dang, Vinh Phat, Lowes, Home Depot, Frank's.

That area has turned into kind of a Vietnamese neighborhood since then. That Albertsons is an Asian supermarket now. The old Blockbuster on the corner is a restaurant.
I think the neighborhood improved since some of those apartments by Darryl Drive near Choctaw got demolished. The Marque Anne area north of Florida behind Sonny's still has a lot of crime though.

Over/Under 2 years before it closes.

Asian Seafood House and their Asian Supermarket next to Dollar Tree, are the adjacent shopping center across Fla Blvd.
The boarded Albertsons on North Sherwood at Fla remains shuttered some 25 plus years later.
Yes, if not for the Viet community, that area of town, and Broadmoor/St Thomas Moore,etc..would be in worse shape.

... Tony's keeps sheriff's deputies on location from open to close

HiNabor has a private security firm at their Brookstown location, and Tony's pays for a heavy sheriff detail presence to alleviate their patrons worries..let's not sugarcoat things.

Something is off with that list. Some of the towns listed don't have a Rouses.
Is this just where their marine supply business can serve?
