Friend of the family screwed up.

Not a DUI or accident.

Good traffic attorney in the New Orleans area?

Not bottom of the barrel. He can afford someone solid.

No.

Stupid shite.

Not paying tickets. License yanked.

Nothing fancy. Just dumb.

I wouldn’t hire an attorney.

Dress nicely and go talk to the city attorney. I say dress nicely - like business casual. If you do that you’ll be the most decent looking person to sit in front of him all day. Most are in orange jumpsuits and shackles.

That would probably be better.

They'd probably click better. I told him call the DA or ask someone at work but he's young and dumb and straight laced.

This is bad advice. If you just want a reduction on a speeding ticket, or a charge amended to something that doesn't carry points, sure.

But what OP is describing someone who fricked up and ignored tickets and probably blew off some court dates. By the time you get that far over your head, you need to deal with the DMV to get your license reinstated. An attorney will know how to do that and you will have a much speedier resolution. The DMV in every state is a pain in the arse to deal with. Get an attorney.

This exactly. Looking for recommendations.

Young guy, from a small town in La, not Nola savvy.

Can pay attorney fees but doesn't even know what is good or bad.

The DMV isn't going to do much of anything. Once a license has been revoked you have to file a petition in CDC to get it reinstated before the expiration of whatever period they revoked the license.

Definitely need a local attorney. Always remember that Judges are attorney’s too. They appreciate the defendant appearing to take these things seriously. Research the judge assigned by going to the courtroom and seeing which attorneys he’s friendly with.

Here's a good idea...just pay the fricking fines and get the license reinstated

If it's as simple as paying off the fine, then yeah, that is by far the best option. If it's been revoked for a term without the ability to pay to get it reinstated, then the dude is pretty much fricked. Unless there is a legitimate argument that a person can challenge the underlying reason for the revocation or some extreme hardship argument, not much will happen. Judges typically review these decisions under an arbitrary and capricious standard.
