LOL all these non New Orleanians worried about New Orleans. Y'all constantly ragging on how shitty New Orleans is but constantly concerning yourselves with the affairs of New Orleans?

New Orleans postal workers can’t find the addresses in street that have been there for decades. This will surely fix the problem....

Black Road 1-193
Black Drive 1-1000

Here's some changes that will never need to be reviewed later:

Changes are coming for the city of New Orleans. The mayor is anxious to have the street names changed.
Do citizens have a say in the matter?
I'd imagine the name changes will be costly for businesses located on these streets.

How fricking long will the horizontal street signs be? Why do they all look like certain Facebook names. Latoya "MZZ INDEPENDENT" Cantrell Blvd.

Do like me and boycott and avoid NOLA at all costs.

Fun fact: Lee Circle was never officially named Lee Circle. It's proper name is Tivoli Circle. People just started calling it Lee Circle because Lee was up there on the pedestal. Now that he's gone, it should just go back to being called Tivoli Circle.

Wasn't P.B.S. Pinchback some kind of traitor or something?

His father owned slaves.
Also was a Republican Governor.

New Orleans is the Chocolate City. These changes are long overdue. Wypipo street names are a relic of racist times in this city

He was a mixed race governor during reconstruction

how is Tulane Ave racist?
From Wikipedia:
"During the American Civil War, Tulane was the largest donor in New Orleans to the Confederate States of America, but the historian John D. Winters in his Civil War in Louisiana (1963) does not give the amount Tulane contributed."

I remember that much, but was he from Louisiana? Did he ever win an election that wasn't widely and reasonably disputed? If the qualification is basically, "this man was imposed on the state by dubious means, likely as a punishment," is that enough?
And that gets at a more general point: the names on the left side are more notable than those on the right. If you don't think so, you've probably been living in New Orleans too long. Nobody ever cured syphilis with fried chicken or crossed the Atlantic on a saxophone.

Yes.

I hear you, but Pinchback is probably one of the few on the list that actually do deserve memorialization.
He was very much a politician but did do a good bit for black people in the state. He tried hard to get decent education for them. He was a significant political figure from Reconstruction through the 1890s. Even though it was only for a few weeks, he also served as Governor of Louisiana (1st black governor of any US state)
He did win at least one state level election uncontested. His US Congressional seat was contested and he eventually conceded. That said, just about every election during Reconstruction and soon afterward was contested.
You are probably thinking of his term as La Governor which he was never elected to. He was apppointed as Lt Governor after the elected one died and then the governor was impeached so he finished the term.
Despite all this, he served as a soldier for the Union, was elected to and appointed several state level positions, served on a bunch of boards and committees, and is one of the guys who started Southern University. I know that may not seem great now, but if you were black before integration, it was the only public university an African American could go to in the state.
Not sure we have to rename other streets, but Pinchback deserves one of his own.

Democrat voters, do you think this will stop black teenagers from slaughtering each other in New Orleans?
