The city’s budget has been a house of cards for years. This combined with the Hard Rock collapse has helped expose the depths of the problems.

“Here’s what FEMA tells me: ‘We go to a place like New Orleans and everybody’s looking around saying, who’s gonna help me, who’s gonna help me?’” he tells the crowd. “They’re just always gratified when they come and see how Iowans take care of each other. It’s a point of pride that spreads across the country.”

I distinctively remember watching the Katrina aftermath and seeing a very cultured woman yell at the camera. "We are victims! When is someone going to help us!"

Betcha much of that shortage was already there, but this crisis is offering cover to make it public.

After Katrina there were two groups of people. Those that started the rebuilding process, personally, just as soon as the wind died down and those that sat on their arse waiting for the gubment. Unfortunately, NOLA has more than its fair share of the latter.

you know that her plan to fill the holes in the budget are going to heavily involve having lakeview pay for it. I bet we see a huge sales tax increase as well

She’s such a fricking idiot

Does she really believe going on CNN and FOX every day attacking Trump is going to help her cause?

This lady is the dumbest fricking person I’ve ever seen hold a public office.

Cantrell's next idea. Schedule another Mardi Gras in August. A good party will make everybody forget their problems.

I am no fan of Latoya but NOLA will not be alone in massive budget shortfalls. Every major tourist city in the world will be in the same boat.
She’s done hundreds of other stupid, incompetent, corrupt things to guarantee she is not re-elected .... raising the alarm that the city will be hurt due to the shutdown is not one of them.

Latoya wants the federal aid....

So she can trim off a portion of that pork for herself.

Nagin did it for Katrina with the massive grant for pumps for the city. Then stole a chunk and bought cheap substandard pumps. Here we are today.

Anytime there is money involved. Look for that to be divided up by the City leaders....This is why New Orleans stays a shithole...the money never makes it to its intended project...

The pro Nola crowd will be here to tell you what a fool you are and how Nola is a great place to raise a family with superior educational standards for K-12.

This, from an Iowa politician last year, seems prescient

“Here’s what FEMA tells me

Dave Rubin interviewed Michael Brown who was Director of FEMA for Katrina, and the one thing from the interview that sticks out to me is that he said when he arrived in NOLA he expected it to be like everywhere else, but it took him a couple of minutes to realize how corrupt and incompetent the city leadership was and that this was going to be a bigger disaster.
