New Orleans could actually be a nice city

If the city could ever elect someone or a number of people competent enough to have the vision to; crack down on crime, clean up the litter that lines the sides of the roads, invest in infrastructure, fix the levee situation and take proper precautions against the next natural disaster (which will happen).
The city has to do more to attract business from outside the state. New Orleans has a unique history and if it could just clean up its act little bit could attract new talent from other areas. I’m not sure if those in leadership roles are too incompetent to see it or they just don’t care, butthe way the city is ran currently is absolutely unsustainable long-term.

The corruption is far bigger than one person

Never happen when a big part of the population lives off the government and has for decades.

They unfortunately represent and cater to the majority of the city.

So could Detroit and Cleveland.

Why are there so many Nola threads on the OT?

If they could figure out a way to buy up all the ghetto areas which are too close to the tourist areas, the place would explode.
Offer maybe 125% of the value and buy them out.....
If not, it's fun watching the slow death of that shithole, always run by a Democrat MORON, right into the ground

Yep. They all have one thing in common though, as do most cities that resemble third world countries. As such, theyre pretty much doomed.

There was hope for it after Katrina.

It's really a damn shame. Without the crime, New Orleans is truly one of the great cities of the world with a rich history and the best unique cuisine. Damn shame.

Those aren’t unattainable goals.
NO just needs someone with enough guts not to pander to people who don’t want to help themselves.

It’s never going to happen. The population does not want this. They want “mines”.
It DEFINITELY won’t happen under Latoya who ran as the SJW, anti-business, rent control, taker candidate.

You would have to elect this guy to clean that crap up-

If they could, a lot of the other things will fall into place IMO. This is the biggest problem with New Orleans. It's just not the economic engine the state needs it to be. The major employers and corporate offices have left New Orleans well before Katrina.
Part of it is the state's tax code, but a huge part of it is the business climate, infrastructure, crime, education, and extreme corruption the New Orleans area. We need New Orleans compete with Houston and Atlanta, and it can't even compete with Memphis or Birmingham.

No they aren't. They have a much steeper hill to climb than other towns...but they can improve. They have to want it.
New Orleans doesn't want to change.

When New Orleans had a strong economy, it was because of its location - shipping by boat and RR, cotton, and oil and gas. At one point in the 1970s, it was actually in competition with Houston to become the oil capital of the U.S. New Orleans is just a tourism city now, with oil, the port, tech, and medical care playing supporting roles in the economy.

You can't expect people with severely low IQs and a lack of understanding of delayed gratification to conceptulaize multiple step economic plans.
The biggest problem with New Orleans is the people of New Orleans.

exactly
due to the utter failure of the population of Nola, it's simply not that attractive of a city to recruit new businesses. the lower class makes the city terrible to live in and forces you to send kids to private school and the upper-government classes believe their role is to steal as much as possible from "outsiders"
Nola is not offering coastal type of salaries and its housing prices are sky high. add on private school and what, exactly, does Nola have to offer in order to attract these people? add in its terrible crime problem that is not isolated to a "bad" area, and there is just not much of a selling point (especially if the people you're recruiting aren't big into drinking and partying)
