You're assuming the foundation is faulty, has that come to light?

Give more money to BREC and Library system. They are doing a bang up job.

Just make sure the skyhooks are a little tighter than usual and the building won't fall over.

Damn.. always thought that was a lot of unsupported overhang. A lot of moment about an axis to account for. Wood not want to stamp.

Trusses in theory dont carry any bending moments .

Looks like a gusset failure if I had to guess.

Eta: in theory

They will have some type of pile from drilled shafts, to augercast to driven

Wasn't a concrete pile, thank goodness and if it was I failed at submitting a bid.

ETA: With B&L I would bet it was auger cast.

in theory, but who really designs a true truss bridge

you point truss bridge to me and ill point to you joints that arent hinges.

True.

That said theres always a certain amount of resisted moment even in "shear" connections.

That’s no shite, used daily by jury pools so it inflated the usage to secure funds for new one

Went there to hang out during jury duty, found some books I donated in 1985 still on the shelf, "Apple IIe users guide", "Building your own 286 based PC". glad to know they are building a new place to house these valuable literary works.

It's a good starting point. There are several other sources out there that claim the whole "library sinking because the architect forgot to factor in the weight of the books" is nothing more than urban legend. It's just a common "don't forget the details" parable like Ted told in How I Met Your Mother.

There are no examples of this actually happening.

If we’re seeing this because one component failed before the thing is even put together completely, I’d investigate the rest of the materials thoroughly looking for similar problems.

Someone probably did a “cost saving measure” that is about to bite them in the arse.

They rebid the toilet seat downtown for a considerable cost savings after ONE public comment.

So downtown BR will end up with a brand new library that no one will ever step into.
I'm not going in there even if everyone says it's ok
