What is your definition of "working"?

am glad we are moving to a different model like Texas Fla Tennessee etc.

Louisiana has an obscene sales tax and virtually no property tax....

but at least the direction has changed to a more business friendly model we have to be more competitive

Louisiana has an infrastructure, demographics, and a hostile to outsiders culture issue that is hurting the business climate much more than tax policy.

Yea...that was odd. I could not find any more details but perhaps it is referencing federal funding?

The increase is temporary and expires in 4 years, I believe. The income tax reduction is permanent. Not sure why jclem is such a cheerleader for higher income taxes. Sounds very liberal to me.

Nope. The increased deduction is still there.

This plan is a net tax INCREASE on the citizens of Louisiana and shifts the tax burden more to the middle and lower classes and enirches the wealthy.

How is that positive for Louisiana the the poorest are having to pay more of their meager incomes in taxes?

I'm for properly funding a competent government.

I just ran the rough numbers based upon my credit card statement for the year (which includes services that don’t qualify for sales tax) and my current state tax liability, and I would’ve come out ahead last year

Scope of services is almost certainly going to be expanded in the near future, so those that were at 0% will go to 10%+, which is going to eat those savings with the quickness.

They’re getting all the idiots like you to buy in first then they’re going to pull the rug out from underneath you

There is no industry in Louisiana. The burden of tax collection will always be on the populace so this is just a tax swap (which the State has surprisingly not even lied about and still gotten people to think this is a good thing).

Texas, Florida, and Tennessee all subject commercial industry to a gross receipts tax to collect tax, Louisiana can’t do that because there is no commercial business

For the record: that does not mean there are no Walmarts located in Louisiana. That means there are no companies headquarter in Louisiana, no real profession services, etc

Did you miss where I said I did the rough estimate off of my total credit card statement (including services)?

Correct. CPA chiming in. You are also correct in that Louisiana has no industry to switch to a full franchise tax on business and property tax model a la TX, TN, and FL.

Demographics and an insular culture hostile to outsiders will forever doom Louisiana.

Wait. I thought the OT hated government and all taxes are theft?

Why are you cheerleading the evil state taking more money from the citizenry?

There’s $10s of millions of administrative spending that is totally useless. And not letting politicians run up fraudulent tabs in the name of “business”

Revenue agents who don’t pick up the phone after 3pm or at all on fridays leading to the hiring of more agents. Duplicate administrative jobs within every agency where people are working 20 hours a week and could be consolidated into a single position. There’s tons of them.

I can’t tell you Betty Smith and Wanda Morgan in wildlife procurement, neither of which do shite, if that’s what you want. But denial that shite exist is crazy

The new tax was targeted at consumption, which I do not quite understand. Does the government really expect tourism to make up the money we're not taxing on businesses? I will avoid spending money within the state for non-essentials as much as I can. The deduction is great but I am still going to be affected daily if I need to buy something besides my groceries.

Jeff Landry has rightfully been a political punching bag by 95% of TD for stupid shite like this. The state has no one to blame but themselves. ~30% voter turnout and it still blows my mind that this clown got elected in the first place.
