What are their numbers. Link them, or list them. I have never seen them.
How many workers are potential riders?
Posted in the article in the OP and discussed in detail in subsequent posts in this thread. You can read. It's text.
Ftom linked article:

“This is what we’ve been waiting for,” says Erin Monroe Wesley, who currently chairs the SoLa. “We know that commuter patterns, traffic problems, and competitiveness for business and talent all make the case for passenger rail in the SoLA Super Region.” Passenger rail between Baton Rouge and New Orleans has been studied extensively. According to the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, a poll conducted of 1,050 registered voters in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, Orleans, St. James, and St. John Parishes in February and March of 2019 found that 75% of people felt positively toward the passenger rail, with 63% stating interest in riding it.

Tesla has been selling every car they can possibly make and they are still terrified of EVs.
I'm a convert on EV's. I never thought they would make it to where they are and they are outpacing even the most bullish predictions.
That doesn't mean they are perfect, but it shows that the world is changing and a lot of what we thought we knew we don't.
I don't want an EV because of any green bullshite. I want one because they are crazy performance-wise.

They are all over in this thread. I can link one, but it is a direct download. Let me know if you want me to link it.
I am very interested in number of commuters in each area and what percentage would be expected to use the train.
Please link.

That is how the free market works.

Is the same standard applied to interstate widening projects? Tell me when I-12 will pay for itself and how that math works out.
Imagine the gas tax quadrupling overnight to cover road projects so that the roads pay for themselves.

And the Chicago metro area haa about 9.4 million people. You can’t compare NO/BR with Chicago.
The METRA line I use originates in a town of about 5,000 people. METRA services originate in tiny Illinois communities like Manhattan, Elburn, Harvard, Woodstock, LaFox, etc. All of those are smaller than Gonzales or LaPlace; significantly smaller than Baton Rouge or New Orleans. There's even a line that goes all the way to friggin South Bend and every map dot in between. It's how our latest SCOTUS justice got to work when she was in the 7th circuit.
Aurora has about 200,000 residents (EBR has about 450,000). Aurora has not one, but two Metra lines and they are pushing to expand beyond it.
I'd be concerned about the Louisiana proposal if local tax payers were footing the bill for an entire regional transit system or if Covid was flaring up again. But this is one line going through communities that, according to several articles posted, actually want it. And the initial costs to start this service up is coming from the feds. Speaking from experience, you won't want to make the drive and deal with parking again once you have a line like this in place.

There is a finite number of tax dollars fir infrastructure and they should be spent where they are most needed.

In this case, $80 billion in federal dollars is going to rail transit, prioritizing projects that link nearby metro areas.
Not allowing that is only going to result in some other state getting Louisiana's share of the funding earmarked for rail.

Thxs. First link is fluff, second is extensive.
Early notes. Two trains a day initially snd not five. Trip ftom end to end 1 hour 35 minutes. Not one hour as stated.
People need to read. Some here are spinning things.

You are reading one scenario that may or may not come true and shitting on the entire thing.
And you won't make it from Government Blvd to Union Station in less than 1:35 any morning of the week.

I can totally beat that time in a helicopter. Stop being obtuse. You are spinning things.

A helicopter? Are you going to walk all the way from the downtown heliport to to your office 3 blocks away? Ugh, some people just don't get it.

The max speed would probably be limited to 80 or below so the time would be closer to 1.5-2hrs considering acceleration/deceleration and 5min stops.
So basically from the time you leave your door step to return it would be 5+hrs travel time? How is that marketable?

If you have to travel 45 minutes to get to the terminal then yes, this probably isn't for you.
I wouldn't expect someone in Hammond to drive to BR to catch the train.

No but if enough people use the train from Hammond, then it should possibly get a hub as well

Anyone who lives in New Orleans other than the few that live downtown would be 15-30 minutes from doorstop to parking. If you lived in a condo downtown, it would be a 10-15 minute walk to the terminal.
I doubt many potential users live around the Baton Rouge station either.

Some sort of Northshore train could maybe one day work. The Causeway really does a good job though. Any train crossing the lake would have to deal with a road that shortcuts the time.

Commies love them some passenger rail.
