Not sure what board this needs to go on. Definitely not the Rant. Fixing to place my spouse into a Neuro rehab facility in Louisiana somewhere. We are exploring 3 options. Baton Rouge rehab on Essen Lane, Neurology Medical at Town Center or Touro Rehab in New Orleans. Would like feedback from anyone that has dealt with any of these places. TIA

Touro is the best by far.

Is this a CVA (stroke) or a TBI (traumatic brain injury)?

Would consider TIRR in Houston or Shepard center in Atlanta if a TBI

The Shepherd Center is great. I realize it is probably not an option in this case, but I know two people who have benefited greatly from that place.

I suffered a stroke a few months back and have been in rehab ever since. I can tell you ther have worked wonders for me. The sooner you can get her in there the better...there is a relatively narrow widow where the brain relearns everything. Any questions, just ask...

I had to put my mother in Touro for 12 weeks in 2008 for a TBI after she was run over by a drunk driver walking in her neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon. The care she received there was nothing short of amazing.

She was in a coma for 37 days and endured a surgery to remove a hematoma on her front lobe at day 5. The neurosurgeon told us inpatient brain rehab was a must if she was able to come out of the coma. We were referred to Touro by another family that had sent their son there a year prior. This family had the means to send their son to any facility in the country and even let us use their personal airplane to tour Touro, one in Jackson, and another in Dallas.

My mother turned 50 at Touro and had the brain capacity of a 3 year old at that time. She now lives independently and is able to drive herself wherever she wants to go. I cannot speak enough about Touro’s care.

Feel free to email me at 4lsu2td@gmail if I can provide any other assistance. Prayers for your wife’s recovery.

Touro rehab has a very good reputation. Good luck to both you and your wife.

I have heard good things about Touro and have sent patients there who did well
But if you can swing it at all go to TIRR in Houston. That place is amazing. One of the best in the world Neuro rehab centers
Any place you are considering go there and visit. Ask lots of questions. They need to have plenty of people around as rehab is labor intensive. Physical and occupational therapy. Speech therapy. If they don’t have all this onsite daily then move on. Some places contract that stuff out in ways not beneficial to the patient in order to save money
Went back and read some old posts. Aneurysms are tough. Prayers sent good luck

A friend of mine went to Touro after a head injury in a car accident. She did great.

Within the state, the chances of a good outcome are probably best with Touro: traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, large volume ischemic stroke/hemicraniectomy, and hemorrhagic stroke.

Would be easier to answer if you are willing to share some details.

Baton Rouge Neuro would be my choice for family, depending on how good your insurance is. I know they are more expensive, because they can be.

Are you referring to Baton Rouge Rehab or NeuroMedical Center Rehab?
