Thanks for the responses. Quick recap. 73 days out of a brian aneurysm. Spent 36 days in ICU at OLOL. Another 7 in a regular room. Have been 5 weeks at an LTAC facility. She is progressing really good according to doctors and therapists here. Can’t go to TIRR. My insurance( which has been really good so far) doesn’t cover out of state. Touro is our first choice and is where the people here are pointing us to. Plan on going to visit them this week. Her neurologist is in the new place on town center. I know a lady that is in management at BR Rehab on Essen. Thanks everyone.

Touro is the best by far. Is this a CVA (stroke) or a TBI (traumatic brain injury)? Would consider TIRR in Houston or Shepard center in Atlanta if a TBI

Agree.

Touro best in LA

TIRR best:proximity to NOLA

Shepard best in the Southeast

Stories like this are great. The circumstances were heartbreaking and just terrible. But her overcoming that is nothing short of amazing and a testament to the care and support she has received. Here's to hoping she leads a long, happy life with no further complications.

Someone( mainly me) has stayed overnight with her every night since this started. I have went home basically to shower and wash my clothes I bring back and forth. I was blown away by the support system that we have in place. My employer and her 2 kids employers couldn’t have been more understanding and are working with us every way possible.

If open to out of state, but still close... UT Southwestern is where you want her.

Edit: Just saw out of state not an option

Those of you that have had dealings with Touro, I have a question. Was it recent? Say last 5 years or so? A couple of the therapists I have spoke to have said they have declined recently.

Not only that... He's a hell of a nice person as well, with a great family, who sincerely cares for his patients and their families.

I'm a respiratory therapist at Touro. Back in the 90's Dr Glynn had me set up our department to use The Craig Institute's Vent weaning protocols for spinal injuries who were still vent dependent. Worked great.

Touro just open a new rehab gym along with a new rehab wing that's state of the art. Each room has it's own Hoyer lifts that run on a hanging track leading to the bathrooms.. There's currently 3 rehab floors at Touro, they're goal is to get everything to 1 floor.

Looks like the two programs in Baton Rouge listed are not CARF accredited. Touro is CARF accredited with sub specialties in BI and Stroke.

What makes someone a rehab doctor wizard? Using SSRI’s, amantadine, aricept, Ritalin, trazodone, tizanidine, baclofen, Botox, etc in the appropriate setting? Just curious. Usually rehab docs don’t get much credit compared to other specialists.

Update. Went and took a tour of Touro today. This is hands down the facility my wife needs to be in. They just so had to have sent a representative to evaluate my wife here in BR while I was down there Requested Gary Glenn. He has already looked at what their rep sent him. They have already approved her and will be contacting my insurance. Should be there next week.
