And I wonder if websites most affected by this repeal (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, etc) aren't actively spearheading that very innovation as we speak
Those websites benefit the most from this...

How you figure? We have no clue what this type of subscription setup could look like. But if it drives down traffic then that hurts ad revenue. And there is no guarantee that ISPs are going to share their profits with these sites

You should realize that it's quite possible that how we access the internet could change due to innovation as well.
How? How could it? Everyone says this but gives no detail on how it could happen. Pretty much the people on the Far Right have just forced us into a game of Russian Roulette when it comes to the internet. The trigger has been pulled, and we’ll see momentarily if it is the death of it.

They can now pay ISPs to shut down their competitors.

Well the big dogs will be apart of every basic internet package. Amazon. Facebook. Reddit. Those will not be counted towards your data.
The niche websites, like this one, are where you'll need to have to pay for data to browse.

Well if it's a two way street and websites can pull themselves off of certain providers, it very much gives incentive for ISPs to share profits with at least the "big dogs".
And if that is the case it also forces pretty much every ISP to charge extra for access to those because as long as one ISP charges and shares profit, the big sites will force the other ISPs' hands.

Jesus Christ at the fear mongering in this thread.
No one has a single clue what this means going forward.

Didn't you know that guy on the poliboard said they're working right now on magical internet that requires no infastructure and no wires at all anywhere And they say that now in Paris,
France, even as we speak Louis Pasteur has devised a new vaccine that will obliterate anthrax
once and for all.

Before 2015 did we have what you are describing?
No.
Folks need to chill with the hyperbole.

I've already said I didn't believe in the doomsayer stuff but that guy was misinformed if he thinks Facebook and Amazon are negatively affected by this. It's largely why they've been really quiet recently about the whole thing
You're right though no one knows what will happen.

You're so over the top that I don't see how anyone can even remotely take you seriously.

Sling TV and PSVue were founded in 2015.
The internet, streaming services, etc.. Are in their infancy. Comparing them to a couple of years ago is asinine at the rate their developing.
And yes, we did have these problems, they had just started happening. And as we noticed that they started to happen Net Neutrality was passed in an effort to curb them.

No people fail to see that no matter what legislation is in place, the big three will control all aspects of telecom. Whether you like it or not.

I think it would be bad business for a site like Amazon to pay for a fast lane to an ISP from a public relations standpoint because they would be seen as fostering what a lot of people are against and Amazon, unlike Facebook, has very real competition still.
Issues like this are again why I still think a free market, coupled with the way the public shares information today and basically keeping companies in check, is why this will not be nearly as bad as the complete hyperbole mouth breathers like Breesus post.

Then why the frick should we hand them the keys to the Asylum?

It doesn’t matter if you didn’t.
A large majority current network infrastructure for GSM / WCDMA / LTE in the US is owned by either Verizon / ATT / Nokia / Ericsson
All the valuable Spectrum is held by the big three.
Verizon and ATT are buying ISP’s
Nokia bought ALU to support Verizon and ATT NAM accounts.
Ericsson supports the big three.
You have shite still being labeled DirecTV but it’s actually ATT.
It doesn’t matter. Unless the government decided to tear it all down.

On the streaming side sure. But the original aspect of Amazon is light years ahead of almost all of their competitors. The really don't have competition in that aspect.
That said, it could force people into looking elsewhere, but eventually those sites will gain enough pull to do the same thing.
It'll bascially become a revolving door of competing websites until they find a balance and a way to all share in the fricking of the average joe, just like pretty much every other business out there.

Yeah it did. It was a wall called the government that prevented them from raping us.
