I assume you're asking about socks for work / day-to-day wearing since you mention not liking thin / sheer socks.
I recommend Nike Dri-fit for a good quality, black sock you can wear to work.

Of course, ideally for work wear-- especially suits-- you should wear socks to match your pants. But even if you wear a lot of suits-- if they're dark gray & navy (black goes without question), and especially if you're wearing black dress shoes, you can get away with thick black socks like the Nike's without drawing any scrutiny.
They stay pulled up your leg well, so the only way anyone would even see the Nike swoosh would be if you sit in a chair with one leg crossed over in a meeting without a desk/table to block others' view.
I'm in a suit most days, in NYC, sometimes logging a few miles a day on foot between various client offices. If I have important meetings, I tend to go with thinner, dressier socks. Most other days, I go with the Nike socks. They're infinitely more comfortable, and they also last a lot long time. (I used to wear Gold Toe Nassau socks, which I liked better than the standard Gold Toes, but the Nike socks are way more comfy and last way longer.)
... regrettably, wasn't paying too much attention at the time, but I think I bought the "crew socks" as opposed to "1/2 cushion crew socks" once. I definitely preferred one version over the other, but don't remember which at this point.

Is that $49 a pair?!? Or is that at least for a 6 pack?

Smartwool hiking socks. They make a couple thicknesses. Can be purchased at REI.

I wear the Magellan tan colored crew socks from academy every day, with either work boots or casual work shoes. They are called rugged outdoors or something like that

Darn tough socks have a lifetime replacement on them. They may be pricey for 1 pair, but considering they will replace them for free it seems worth it. I haven't bought any from them, but will next time.
Icebreaker has some very good thick wool socks. Got a pair for my mom and was very impressed with the thickness and softness of it. They were 60-70% merino wool too and they also come with a lifetime warranty. I would imagine Darntough to be very similar to these.
Wigwam seems pretty good too. Got another pair as a gift for someone and they were on were of the same quality as Icebreaker but only came with a 2 year warranty.
All these socks are a merino wool blend, usually containing 60%+ merino wool.

I buy the black ones from SAMs. I wear them wifh evrything including as dress socks. FN awesome and a good deal. Dress socks are too thin and make my feet sweat. They are are black and have a green toe stripe. You will love them
