Every time I post this I get ripped for it but I got the Feather AS-D2 razor for Christmas ($175) and it makes shaving so much more enjoyable. Nearly impossible to cut yourself, even with Feather's notoriously sharp blades.
Also get Prorasco pre shave cream. Smells awesome.

Merkur 180.
I have large hands and it fits like the shorter ones are supposed to.
Astra blades.
Taylor of old bond street cream.

Got a merkur razor off amazon. Feather blabes are all I've ever used. I bought a bulk pack a year ago for 10 bucks and still havent run out. I use Taylor of old bond sreet, but used a nivea cream from walgreens before. To be honest, the Taylor of old bond isnt really that much better and it's more expensive (although its by no means expensive)

I went with a 38c due to the review ratio from Amazon. I'm hoping the larger handle will fit my hands well.
I got a sample pack with Astra and Shark blades, plus some others.
I've been using Crabtree and Evelyn Sandalwood shaving soap for years. My wife likes the smell and I always enjoyed the brush and soap for shaving.
I appreciate the input on this.

Got the 38c today. I like it. It was a tentative cautious shave at first, but when I realized the correct angle it became much more intuitive. Tried the Astra stainless blade first. No problems. Shaved better than my old Sensor Excel, but the more extreme topography of the face is going to take some getting used to. I didn't find I needed to double shave, save for a few spots that always need it.
Thanks due the rec's.
