All recs are good. You def need to get fitted and Varsity does a great job. They will tell you if you pronate, over pronate, etc. I have always been an ASICS fan, then Sacouny, but have switched to Mizunos. Hokas are good for some. I can't run in them, but they are extremely comfortable if you are on your feet all day.

I've purchased Glycerin 11 and 13 at full retail ($150) in Jan '14 and Feb '16.
Any idea when the new model comes out each year and the prior year model drops to $70-90? I don't mind spending $150 because they fit my foot perfectly but I would rather get the timing right and be able to get 2 pairs for the same price.
On Brooks' website it looks like the Glycerin 14 are already released and on their sale page they have every model except Glycerin.
Sale page if anyone is looking for Brooks shoes.

Go get fitted at a store. I rotate between Brooks, Asics, and Saucony - I get a new pair every year and just get whichever feels best to me that particular year. All have been great.
I have not had any luck with New Balance.

Anything Adidas with Boost cushioning.

Altra is what I recommend to all of my clients.
What do you mean your clients? I just got a pair of Altras to try out because of the zero drop. Certainly feel different as soon as you put on the shoe, but otherwise running has been about the same.
Why do you recommend them?

Go to Varsity or any type of specialized running shoe store. Let them do the figuring.
Or you can take the whole "less is best" and wear ur most worn out shoes or barefoot it.

Now that you can get Nike presto in normal sizes and not the S/M/L nonsense, they're worth a try. Super light and have a fixed tongue, so it's basically a slip on with laces.

I don't fully believe in "fitting" for shoes. But I do agree with going to a shop like this. Especially Varsity...I've had good experience there. When I say I don't believe in fitting, I mean I don't think you can let them just pick your shoe. All you can do is lean on their knowledge. You have to realize you don't like something (like a narrow toe box) and they'll know what shoes might fix that and makes the process go faster. They can't just watch you run and say these are your perfect shoes. It will take several pair to find what you like. And I mean buying several pair and running for a month in them. It's why I don't think anyone can give good running shoe advice to someone else.

Mizunos are good but Brooks are better IMO. Mizunos are lighter but don't last as long. If you run every day , the Brooks will last you about 4 months till you need new ones. They last the longest I've found

That what I wear. My wife bought me a new pair this past Christmas and they're great.

Altras are nice. Roomy in the toe box and nice cushion.

I like my Brooks GTS, but I will probably go back to the Nike Zoom stability shoes. They apparently fixed the issues the last two years had.
I'm 200 plus pounds and have wide feet so I really like the stability shoes.
