Aviation. Tasty, boozy, and can be used to show LSU team spirit (pun intended) on a fall Saturday night.
2 ounces gin
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
1/4 ounce creme de violette (a 750ml will last a long time)
3/4 ounce lemon juice
Shake with ice, strain, and serve.
ETA: lemon twist and/or cocktail cherry for garnish

Yours may be "legit" but's it's not correct. This is the correct way...
Gotta be honest, I have to disagree with Trader Vic, there is no reason for rock candy syrup in a mai tai.
My go to is as follows:
3/4oz lime juice
1/2oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao
1/2oz orgeat
1oz each of two different dark rums.
2oz of the same rum is more than serviceable, but I really like trying one plainer sweet rum and something else with some funk.
For a whiskey variant, swap your rum with bourbon or rye of choice and swap lime juice for lemon. The name escapes me at this time, but with beam products it's a nutty delicious drink.

I’ve been putting glass of ice
1/2 glass Irish cream
Double shot bourbon
Top with cola
I like it.

Apple Crisp Whiskey Smash per the recipe:
2 oz pour whiskey
1 angry orchard apple beer
1 oz caramel syrup or salted Caramel vodka
2 tsp lemon juice
Mix over ice
I honestly like a 4oz pour of whiskey, but choose your poison.
Happy Fall drinking

'Tequila Little Lime'
Silver tequila, simple syrup ( I like to make my own with water, sugar, and store bought lime juice) grape fruit juice, and 2 lime wedges squeezed. Serve over ice and sprinkle with margarita salt.

There is nothing difficult about a mojito so long as you have the ability to muddle or, preferably, a mortar and pestle.
