So do they want the original price or the 15% discounted one? I think that is where the confusion lies.
This. Retail $500 less the 15% discount is $425 "sale" price.
That's my take anyway.

Yes. She will be too proud to admit her fault though.

Talk to your daughter, I said the stereo is marked down $75 then an additional 15%. So you are wrong still. I never mentioned the 63, quit making things up

$425 would be the sale price.
500 × .15 = 75
500 - 75 = 425
Initially, I did this:
100 ÷ 15 = 6.66666667
6.66666667 × 75 = 500
500 × .15 = 75
500 - 75 = 425
Initially, I did this:
100 ÷ 15 = 6.66666667
6.66666667 × 75 = 500

A quick google search has given me ammunition. Should I email the teacher?
No. Sit your kid down and explain the problem, with a laptop with your evidence.
Tell your kid that sometimes it isn't worth telling someone that they are wrong, bc it might cause them to treat you negatively. Because this isn't for a grade, there is no reason to risk that the teacher might act petty.
But tell your little lady that you'd tell the teacher that she was wrong if it was for a grade. Be super animated with this part; like you're her knight in armor.
Then, dovetail the "we'll get that teacher if she messes up on the test" into an opportunity to go over all of your daughter's future exams just to "make sure they didn't mess up."
Tell your little girl that her dumb teacher was yalls secret and not to say shite to the dumb teacher.
Have fun with your daddy/daughter math test review time.

I don't believe you.

this is what I have already done. She also asked me not to talk to her teacher and I’ll respect that. I am curious how the teacher doesn’t have an answer key to look at.

My daughter and I have gone round for round over a problem on her math home work. Can someone please show me how I’m wrong.
A stereo is marked down $75. If this is a 15% decrease, find the sale price?
My answer is $425
FYI teacher told her I was wrong.
show your work

Original retail $500
Sale price $425
You sir are correct.

15% of 500 is 75. 500-75= $425.
What is suppose to be the answer?

The wording can throw you off I guess. If the mark down price is $75 less than the original price then the original price is $500. So the mark down price is $425.
If it is currently being sold for $475 isn't that the sale price?
Posted on 2/11/19 at 9:29 pm to gsadle5
The teacher is dumb. $425 is the answer.

Why did you have to google it? It's math. If $75 was 15% off then 75/.15= $500.
$500 - $75= $425. There is nothing to google because there is only one answer.
Since the teacher needs help in English, all they had to do was write it out as..
"If $75 is 15% off the original price then the original price is $500. Since there is 15% discount then the stereo is being sold for $425. So whatever you are trying to ask for the answer is in there".

I am curious as to why a math teacher doesn't know how to figure out percentages.
Amount of discount/discount percentage = original price.
original price * discount percentage = amount of discount.
All she has to do is plug in the numbers.

The sales price is 425. Original price is 500
Teachers are morons. I couldn’t write the equation to save my life but that is the answer

3rd page has all the people who cheated and copied homework in school. Coming in with the answers after the work has already been done on first pages.

If you look at my posts I had it figured out long before I googled, but since he said it was the exact wording, googling it means I’m very likely to get an official answer key to make sure we aren’t missing information and are not skipping on an alternative interpretation. And ultimately so we can take that answer key to the teacher with official proof she’s wrong, not a him-against-her situation anymore.

I did not have to google it to get the answer. I knew that $425 was correct and the teacher was wrong. I have a 12 year old who thinks her dad doesn’t know shite. Guess I needed something other than my word to try and prove a point.
