You're insurance Co wants your house in tip top shape, especially after they cut you a check. They don't want to insure a dilapidated house in need of repairs.
Yes you are required to pay your entire deductible. You signed on the line, right?

If there is a dispute on the amount of the loss, you could demand appraisal.

Seriously they are the fricking worse insurance company to deal with in the world. You will need an attorney. Document everything every call etc
