Need advice on selling a car

I’m trying to sell my car tomorrow but somebody stole the plates off it. Can I sell the car and then worry about dealing with the DMV and the plates being stolen after or do you have to have them to sell it?

I'm not a lawyer and the following should not be construed as legal advice:
Go frick yourself.
Go frick yourself.

Since you live in Louisiana, just cancel the plates online. Louisiana’s Express Lane

I mean you can if you want. But once you cancel them just save the confirmation and that should cover you.
You don’t actually have to turn in the plates in anymore if you cancel online. If a cop runs the plates after you cancel it then it will flag in the system and they should initiate a stop.

Whenever I sell my cars in Mississippi, I give them to my local fish house to put them on their wall.

do you mean that you sold them to another doper back when you were still using ?

You don’t need the plates to sell just cancel the registration no need to turn in plates anymore. You would have pulled the plate anyways upon sale.

I would at least get a police report to at least get a documented police report. If the stolen plates are on a similar car and used in a crime, good luck claiming it wasn’t your car after the fact. Even after you cancel the plates w the DMV, they tell you that you are responsible for disposing. Again, if used while someone commits a crime and you didn’t report stolen; you now have the fun of saying it wasn’t you and explaining why you didn’t report stolen

Drive it off a cliff. Use your seatbelt

How much do you enjoy getting speed camera tickets? Your old plates are likely about to start racking up fines for you.
