I wouldn't put anything down sight unseen. You aren't getting very good terms if you have to pay 50% down. You and he would be better off to use a letter of credit from a bank , but they run about 5% of commercial invoice. It puts the money in escrow until you approve the shipment. I pay 100% by wire transfer when cargo reaches port. If it is a new vendor we demand and get 45 days which gives us time to inspect the cargo. Tough but doable if they want repeat business

Tell your Chinese contact to list them privately on Amazon, make sure to use your prime account, order 900, amazon ships free. ???? Profit.

If you are selling them for profit then just get the fed tax id number, it's not that hard to do then you could deal with whoever you wanted. Create a quick llc and be done with it.
No no no, he'd much rather bitch about people who mooch of the government while simultaneously cheating on his taxes completely.
Perhaps the OP is different, but few things in this world upset me quite like someone who skimps on their taxes with cash businesses and such. I mean a little summer job cutting grass for cash is one thing, but bailing on the taxes owed on $40,000-$75,000 in profits is quite another.

Use a broker, they will handle shipping, customs, fees, insurance etc. it's almost impossible for a inexperienced person to successfully complete it

Did you contact a freight forwarder?
Posted on 5/3/16 at 10:36 pm to Triggerr
Like others have said use a broker. You don't have the Drayage connections needed to get the freight from shipper to port and port to you along with all the other issues people have mentioned.

Just sent this thread to Jim Parsipanny, SBCB IRS auditor in New Orleans. You'll have your new Tax ID by the end of the week!
