Why do we have planes crossing runways to begin with?

Should taxiways be at the end/beginning of a runway, then you never have to worry about this scenario.(in other words, you’d never have anything crossing a runway)

If it didn’t involve resigning every airport on the planet I’d be inclined to agree.

Short of that I’m a fan of the “follow the greens.” Cuts down on radio traffic and reduces the risk of language barriers. It makes taxiing so easy even I can do it

Crazy that I’m sure smart people designed airports and this seems simple and common sense
to me….If you have airplanes landing and taking off, might be a wise idea to not have anything crossing where they’re landing and taking off.

well that’s the general idea. That’s why we have a bunch of controllers to prevent it from happening. And why pilots are trained extensively and there are a million bulletins that come out describing how simply taking off/taxiing and landing are the most dangerous parts of any flight.

The simple fact is that the sheer volume of air traffic today is more than most airports were designed for.

poor guys

Maybe throw an aircraft on the runway for the landing

Make sure it’s single engine with a flap failure too
