I was on suggested 12 hours per week because I'm not an idiot. Sign in for ~ an hour and a half each weekday and cram in 5 hours late Sunday.

Yeah well congrats... I got good grades in all of my electrical and mechanical classes but friggin Physics killed me.

Put a piece of equipment in front of me and I could tear it down and fix it pretty easy.

Ask me to quote specs such as motor requirements or coolant temps and pressure, I'll answer it without fail

Ask me to calculate/graph the absorption rate of control rods at various insertion levels and I'm a bag of dicks

Orlando for boot, Great Lakes, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Little Rivers, and finally Roosevelt Roads for permanent duty at AFWTF - '78 - 81' - Rosy Roads was like a year round vacation and we got to see marine and navy pilots blow up drones..... (not like today's drones - $500K per with loads of telemetry equipment) they were supposed to 'come close'

Went back a couple of years ago to Vieques and RR and the old base looks like a scene out of an apocalypse movie.....it's a shame what's become of it

FIFY

WestPac on the Bonhomme Richard. Ship life sucked but the ports totally made up for it.
Nothing like having 10 showers but only 3 working ones for 150+ Marines. Same with the toilets. Don't think we ever had all of them working at one time. We were convinced it was the sailors just messing with us. We didn't blame them though. I'd be pissed to if I was busting arse all day working while Marines just eat sleep and workout.

Why were you an EM? It sounds like you should have been designated as a MM.

I was an ET.

I chose it, 20 years later I can't really explain why other than it sounded cool to run the MG's.

I'm not mad/bitter. TBH, failing that final was a crucial life lesson for me and would put me on track to have a wonderful career in telecom and now IT

from our house, we could see Vieques, Culebra, and St. Thomas on a clear day. Dad flew H-46 for VC-8. Sole job was to pick up drones in the ocean. PR made a big mistake shutting down Vieques. Cost the island lots of jobs.

Dad was attached to Hal-3. I'm sure that the Sea Wolves provided you some cover, especially at night.

What do y'all do while underway? Do you stand watches?

for me (pre internet and cell phones) most of the time was spent cleaning weapons/equipment and a shite ton of PT
after that video games maybe play some spades

the Tarawa had a small "movie theater" so that was nice
if I remember right the longest time between ports was about 3 weeks

Yes every time the ship pulled into Pearl Harbor, nothing but respect
