I actually did a Nathan's qualifier in New Orleans back in 2008. Finished 3rd with like 14
You just need to create an account on MLE and pick the contest you want to participate in. It's pretty easy but most of them fill up quickly so you need to check daily on upcoming events.

Had a guy here in Chauvin that was ranked top 20 for a while. Looks like he isn't on there anymore. Said it is easy to jump in but hard to compete
