Somewhere there’s an old voyager engineer shaking his head at what NASA has become

After accidentally shifting Voyager 2's antenna by two degrees, NASA is out of contact with the interstellar probe until at least Oct. 15

Non-issue.

Luckily, the radio blackout should be temporary, NASA said. Voyager 2 is programmed to reset its antenna's alignment several times each year to stay in contact with Earth as it drifts ever farther away. The next reset is scheduled for Oct. 15, at which point communication with Voyager 2 should resume.

NASA is only interested in one thing now. Space is secondary.

It’s July. It’s a little bit of an issue

How do you frick up something so important? Surely everyone double, triple checks their work… right?

I think that is more than a bit undeserved.
They just parked the James Webb at a Lagrange point (L2) a million miles away from Earth and the mission had almost 350 single points of failure and worked flawlessly. Having anything work with one try and 350 SPOFs is a monumental accomplishment in a lab much less in space.

I watched the Netflix show about that tonight. Incredible.
