In the newest strange incident of college censorship, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) is taking issue with Northern Michigan University (NMU)’s policy prohibiting students from talking to each other about suicide.

Not sure why they are banning it, but I can see why it could lead to more negative reaction than positive. College students probably troll more than they give constructive advice.

I am a mental health professional. This is the most asinine policy I've ever seen related to mental health. I guess I need to read more about how this decision was made because every school has multiple departments with people who would say this is a stupid, stupid idea. Let's see what happens the first time a student there commits suicide. I bet the policy is rescinded before you can blink. Especially after the family of that student files suit against the administration of the school.

Good, we've got too many college grads as it is in this country.

So we're regressing back to silencing people who may legitimately need to talk about their mental health.

That sounds like a brilliant idea.
