N. Koreans ordered to hand over pet dogs to be used for meat

Kim Jong-un has declared that pet dogs are a symbol of capitalist 'decadence' and ordered that dogs in Pyongyang be rounded up - and owners are fearful that their beloved pets are being used to solve the nation's food shortages.
Dictator Kim announced in July that owning a pet is now against the law, denouncing having a dog at home as 'a tainted trend of bourgeois ideology'.
'Authorities have identified households with pet dogs and are forcing them to give them up or forcefully confiscating them and putting them down', a source told South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper.
'Some of the dogs are sent to state-run zoos or sold to dog meat restaurants'.
Dog meat has long been considered a delicacy on the Korean Peninsula, although the tradition of eating dogs is gradually fading out in South Korea.
Still, an estimated 1 million dogs are reared on farms to be consumed every year in the South.
Man's best friend is still a staple on the menu in the North, however, with a number of dedicated dog restaurants in Pyongyang.
Dog meat is most popular in the hot and humid summer months as it is believed to provide energy and stamina.
Often served in a spicy soup or stew with vegetables, it is also known for raising the body temperature in the cold winter months.

I feel so bad for the innocent people that drew the short straw in life and had to be born in that shithole of a country.
Truly some cosmic bad luck

Yeah, it’s not just a matter of dusting yourself off and making something of yourself when you live in a place like this. You have every card on the planet stacked against you being born in a place like this.

Right. There is literally no concept of this in North Korea. The people there are practically considered property of the state.
You don’t make anything out of anything. You survive and try your best not to end up starving in a famine or getting yourself and your family thrown in a prison camp.

Still can't believe people don't know the difference between communism, socialism, and dictatorship.

Still can’t believe people think there’s actually a difference, or that communism isn’t the ultimate destination for socialism.
I’d be less concerned with the label as I would with the actual direction this country is going in.

Anyone who leans left politically should go watch Doug Demuro going over a Trabant and taking it for a spin on YouTube. Capitalism is shitty in a lot of ways, but it is far better than the alternative.

North Korea is not a communist country is all I'm saying.
Because you fear what Fox News tells you to fear, you can't discern the difference between democratic socialism and communism. But I'm sure you'd be fine with an authoritatian government as long as it's Trump. Which is closer to dictatorship than communism and true socialism.

Silly , North Korea just hasn’t gotten Communism right. Our new American woke arse communists are much smarter and pro dog, so we can keep ours. Only white Republicans and other criminal thinkers will be sent to meat plants.
