I told her if she gets a new dog, go check out the local shelter. A lot of dogs need a good home. If she does, it’ll likely be a lap dog.

Those dogs are extraordinary in their love of a master (or mistress).
We saw someone dump one in the road at the base of our hill. The dog stayed there every day waiting for its owner to return. The dog would go the 2/10 of a mile to the old Ferry landing and take a bath every day and beg food from the fishermen. Then back to where he was dumped. This went on for weeks.
One of the fishermen came up to our house, told how he'd been feeding the dog, and did we know the owner? I told him what I knew of the story. He asked my permission to adopt it, which I gave gladly.
The next day I saw him pull his car beside the dog, open the door to the dog and the dog jumped in.
We all need a happy ending and it was.

I had to let a dog go once. It was rough. But he ended up getting another gig as a fry cook.

You sonovabitch. Now you've gone too far. I don't have a sister but I once knew a guy that had a sister who had a beagle with cancer. It didn't make it past 17 years old and I still haven't recovered.
