Nice. It is a level of illegal voyeurism I would imagine.

I am genuinely curious to know about air rights in this situation too?

This thing might take more than water to get down. A buddy of mine has one and that thing is fricking badass. Goes about 35 mph top speed and can get up to 5 miles away. If it goes out of range it simply just hovers and returns to the original take off location. I think op has cause to frick it up though. No reason to be looking at kids and wife.

Rule #3 Why don't you give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's just flying it for fun. Or an even better idea, go to your neighbors house and talk to him like a normal human being/adult. The information you may learn could suprise you.

I have a sneaking suspicion he didn't say shite to the guy.

Not even if they are in the backyard still on their private property?

That doesn't seem accurate to me.

Me, too. IDK who, if any one, controls air space at such low levels.

It was only an issue for my neighbor bc he was using the drone to fly over and possibly record what was happening on private property where we had a reasonable expectation of privacy in our back yard. Wonder if that would change if a neighbor's 2nd story window was close enough to see into our yard.

It's not about who controls but as a property owner you have air rights above your property. I would think that no ordinary citizen like the OPs neighbor has a right to violate those air rights but that may be way off base.

I would assume only above private property would be illegal, right?

Flying over a street would be public and fine?

You got a law or case to back this up?

Not saying you're wrong or right just curious

I don't think you have a reasonable expectation of privacy if all they are just looking out of their own window

It would be up to the neighbor to say he wasn't going to use pics of kids swimming and the OPs wife in a bathing suit as explicit.

With kids involved that's not a battle I would be willing to take on just to fly my drone around.

The cameras on the majority of these things are next to useless.

Unless you're spending 1000's of dollars, the video looks like a 2002 phone camera video held by an epileptic.

It's most likely a toy the guy was fooling around with. Tell him you'd appreciate it if he didn't fly it over your house, or be an a-hole and yell at him you'll shoot it down if you ever see it again. Take your pick.

Yeah. IDK about that & would love to know the answer. Our PD approached it as a peeping tom situation and didn't address air space. It probably helped that we called together our of curiosity. If he flies it over my yard again while the kids are swimming, ill let you know what they say. It was a curiosity the 1st time. I won't.laugh if it happens again.

Yea I am curious too.

There are going to be more and more laws passed over time as these things become more widespread and rightfully so.

Don't need someone on the sexual offenders list flying those things through neighborhoods.

You need the slingshot version of chain shot that they used to cut up rigging on big sailing ships back in the day. Take two pellets and figure out some way to attach fishing line to both so that when it fires it will hold onto them both. Put maybe 6-8" of line between them and now you've got a much better chance of hitting the thing, and if you do hit it, he's going down.

I'm thinking spider wire fishing line, two steel pellets, some duct tape and super glue and you're probably good to go. Would be fun to figure it out and if you ever did take him down, well, good luck, but it would be interesting.

Do they monitor these people's internet or something? Seems like they could get all the footage they could possibly desire online w/o restrictions

Ball bearings with a 1mm hole drilled through them. Fishing line knotted through the hole.

Place a bunch of mirror like objects along your roofline facing towards a center point above your yard.

From someone who has a quadcopter and flies it daily I would have to disagree. Most of them are going to be carrying a go pro that shoots 1080p video and 12 mp stills which is more then enough to capture details.

As far as where he can and can't fly is still up in the air because the FAA has not come up with any specific rules and regulations for multi rotor copters. It may not be illegal to fly over someone else's yard but it is a great way to lose an expensive piece of equipment. That being said, unless your neighbor is really that stupid he probably thought your wife and kid would think it was just a cool toy and wanted to show off.

As far as taking it down, they are pretty damn resilient. The nerd football, and net would both work but like another poster said these things are fast. They will do 30moh with ease and can climb 20ft per second so its not likely that it will be an easy task.
