Not exactly analogous from a biological standpoint.

I was just truthful with my 8 year old. I told his that some boys like to date other boys. He replied by saying that's weird and I agreed that I didn't understand it. That was the end of the conversation.

I feel people are really missing the upside to the recent rise of the gays. They don't have a bunch of bastard kids that they don't raise and allow to be pieces of shite in society.

Being gay is no more of a choice than being hungry is a choice. I believe homosexuality is wrong and that its a sin, but we all have different temptations of sin. Some of us have problems with gluttony or with lying. Most of us are not eager to commit certain sins, but some people are. For example, I have no desire to commit murder or rape, but I know that some people have those temptations. That isnt a choice for them. They are born with those desires. Just like it inst a choice for me to want to lust after half of the girls I see at school. Its wrong, and I try not to. But I don't choose to have those feelings. Its something I must overcome, just like homosexuality is a temptation that others must face and hopefully choose not to.

Let's think about your "sins" and why they are considered to be sins. Gluttony hurts oneself, and it is closely related to greed, which could hurt others if your greed/gluttony deprives them of something. Lying hurts others. Murder hurts others. Rape hurts others.

Who are gay people hurting?

Oh, no doubt. Homosexuals also generally make above-average salaries, have more in retirement, and less debt.

They are, without a doubt, a very functional subgroup.

If I had to take a guess, homosexuality is just like every other human characteristic in that there is some level of genetic predisposition that when paired with environmental triggers causes the characteristic to surface.

the definition of a sin isn't an action that hurts someone, its a transgression of divine law.

I know what your definition of sin is. I was contrasting it to a more logical definition.

quote:

sin1 [sin]
noun
1.
transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam.
2.
any act regarded as such a transgression, especially a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.
3.
any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense

I think immoral actions qualify as sins by this definition.

Is my usage/definition worse than your usage/definition that is thousands of years old?

Just emailed my dad to ask what he would do in that situation and he told me that he would probably tell the kid that what they were doing is wrong. Sigh. He's 65, but damn. I don't get why it's an issue.

Can anyone show me where it black and white says it is a sin besides what I quoted earlier?

Just tell your kid that some boys like girls and think they are cute. Some boys like other boys and think they are cute. They don't get to choose who they think is cute.
