Don't get me wrong, it's a cool looking roofline that I can respect, but it is not a mansard roof.

Still not a mansard

There has been a trend in Baton Rouge since the late 1960s to build homes with hip roofs with a flared out overhang. Nick-name was the Baton Rouge bell. I think it was a knock off of A Hayes Town setups from that era. There are a lot of them in Bocage, along Goodwood, the nicer sections of Broadmoor, and CCLA. It's still a hip roof.
I would just call it a flared hip roof, or a double-pitch hip roof, but it's also known as a dickey roof.

A mansard would historically be a lot more steep at first and a much more severe change in angle.
I was under the impression that it was defined by the number of angles and the uniformity on all sides and becomes steeper as you travel top to bottom - Which this one does until it flares slightly for looks.
The framing fits this description. Don't have any pics of that stuff though.
I appreciate everyone who has posted informatively and hasn't been a dick about it. and Terd.

You should add Architect to your picture resume.

I just adjusted the thread title. You've seen my resume - You know I hate detailed work.

the steep pitch of your roof is what helps your shingles. Winds are hitting your shingles nearly sideways. Lower pitched roofs allow the wind to more easily get up underneath them.
