Today is chest and tri day. Decided to bench first. I warmed up on lighter weight and was ready to go. I’m doing 4 X 12 reps of 225. I could not find an extra 45lb weight so I threw on a 25 lb weight and two 10’s with a 45lb on each side. I start my first set and I do 6 very quickly and I look to the left and all of my weights have slide to the end of the benchpress bar on my left. They begin to fall and then the right side comes crashing down to the floor shortly afterwards. Whoops!! I get several smiling looks as the gym is packed.

I guess I need to slow my tempo down and concentrate on form.

If you're benching heavy don't use the stoppers that go on the bar. IMO it's safer to control the weight doing it the way you did rather than being stuck in that position with no way to get the weight off the bar. Otherwise you'd have to roll the bar off of you which isn't very easy with heavy weight.

Or just use halfway decent form...

MILFs love the gym. You just embarrassed yourself.

Go jack off in shame.

Yeah, in my younger days I remember getting stuck in our carport with stoppers on. I had to roll the bar off like you said. My stomach was bright red for hours.

I usually never struggle with this weight so that is why I did not have a spotter but I’m good at knowing when I only have one rep left in me on days when I just feel weaker. You are right. I just need to go slower. Will get better results that way. After looking like an idiot I decided to go slower on every down rep.

Time to learn how to train with a little tempo. It’s not about how much you can bounce the bar off of your chest.

I knew a guy who coached football and liked to work out in the morning before school. One morning he got pinned under the bar until somebody came in and found him. Fortunately unhurt but embarassed.

I've done it before. Couple years ago I had 225 on there and everything just gave out on me mid-rep. Controlled the bar down and just rolled it down my torso and slid from underneath it. Definitely not the goal though. Now I never put the weight stoppers on there.

In high school I went lift after a final so it was around 1-2pm. Used those weight stoppers and tried to get an extra rep on bench in and failed. The bar got stuck on my chest and I couldn’t dump the weight. Looked around and nobody else was in there so I was stuck for a solid 5 minutes before 2 old ladies walked in and took them off so I could dump it. Ever since I refuse to use them

Crazy, same thing happened to me today except I warm up with 230 instead of 225.

Don’t use stoppers for bench press

Once someone left 4 plates on each side of the squat bar. Like an intelligent person, I removed all the weights from one side only. After taking the 4th weight off, the bar completely collapsed on the opposite side. It made a horrific crashing sound

This is your second gym fail today as there is a health and fitness board for this subject.

Oh, you're one of those phags.

You're a hazard to others in the gym and you're a moron. Gym should have tossed you out and revoked your membership.

By all means, you should have metal plates dropping off a bar and rolling and bouncing around causing a hazard to others. What a great idea.

Let's be real here, 225 is not heavy weight. And you can put 225 on your chest and lower one end to the ground and squeeze yourself out from under it, keeping control of it.

If you can't lift it and if you can't properly handle things without use of a spotter then the weight is too much for you. Get a spotter or get on a Smith Machine.

Maybe next time just let out a big grunt like you're just lifting angry. Followed up by strutting around the locker room naked, of course.

This is a good reminder of why I only warm up with the bar on the Smith. Which is fine because my form is straight, controlled and I pause perfectly both on the up and the down. Grab a towel, a sip of water and I'm good to move on to leg extensions.

weight stoppers

They're called collars and if you are serious about lifting everyone should own a pair. You can get them at Rogue. Very cheap. They should be in your gym bag and use them instead of those coiled devices in most gyms. Those routinely fail.
