Just went to Costco in BR and they've installed 4 self checkouts. I'll be damned if I'm paying a store to shop there and then having to check myself out. It's BS!

I do this at Sams. I feel like a VIP passing by all those suckas in line.

I just wish I could skip the home repair salesmen that stops everyone on their way out.

My shoppers occasionally complain about these apparatuses, but never to the lengths my yardmen go to when they bemoan the lack of check out lanes at those home depot centers

less employees and less being forced to pay $15/hour.

These people demanding arbitrary minimum wages are so shortsighted.

Ha. You assume that the people pushing the $15 minimum wage want people to work. Here's some news. They don't. They want businesses to automate and unemployment / government welfare numbers to go UP. Because those people will then continue to vote for the party that is providing their meal ticket. Meanwhile, everyone expects the companies and the business owners to keep supporting the tax base that allows this to happen. Then, eventually, the businesses go broke and the people paying exorbitant taxes leave the country for somewhere else. Then the whole thing comes crashing down.

TLDR? Socialism. It never has and never will work.

Hate Walmart, but I used self check out lines wherever I go. Cashiers today are never taught how to properly bag items. Sucks when you get home with a loaf of bread or bag of flour or sugar that is ruined because it was bagged next to a frozen item and it got all wet.

Bring back trained baggers!

When Walmart introduced self-checkout over in Mississippi, you could only check 7 items before the attendant would need to reset the machine. That ended fairly quickly.

How is a self checkout gonna bring my groceries to my car?

Shop at Sprouts and Whole Foods. They don't have self checkout. Aslo, at Sprouts there is a person who bags the groceries in addition to the cashier

So the only place you could purchase alcohol or tobacco was at the customer service counter? That seems like a terrible idea.

I don't know about tobacco in that particular arrangement, but for alcohol... As soon as you scan, a light turns yellow and it will get the attention of the attendees who will verify your age. You can't complete the transaction without the employee clearing the issue.

The scan and go machines were arranged in two parallel lines of 6 and 5, with a 12th on the end. The lines are parallel to the front of the store.

You're right about not being able to complete it but you can continue scanning your items and whatnot in the meantime. Which is better than at other places, in my experience, where you're just stuck until the employee comes over.

love self-checkout. I'm a master at it. I organize all my stuff, scan it, bag it, pay by card, done. I always lol when I see people standing in long-arse lines, while self-checkout is wide open.

This and don’t have to worry about some stupid cashier putting my bread or eggs in the bag with canned goods

I have the new Walmart+. Most of my grocery orders are $35+; so I just get it delivered to my front door for “free” ( think Amazon Prime “free”). It is great. Also get $0.05/gal fuel discount and can scan and go if I do up going into the store.

Walmart is tired of their employees always demanding more pay and benefits. So are many other places like fast food restaurants.

The min wage idiots all thought that they could force employers to pay these low skilled workers if they complained loud enough and didnt shut up about it.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right?

Nope, those squeaky wheels got replaced. Too bad for them.

Wave of the future.. i would be happy with no cashier lines at retail stores ever again..

So we’re all part time workers for the Waltons every time we use the self checkout.
If they would have cashiers at everyone of the 20 or so registers and not just 3 or 4 things would move along swiftly.
The rich getting richer.
Just saying.

I always go to the hottest cashier person...so I always end up on the self checkout.

No, I've never understood this ill concept.

Youre choosing a more efficient method of checking out. Its to your benefit.

Theres no reason for your products to be double handled now. Quicker, more efficient.
