So, he learned his lesson by being let off? Whip his arse when you see him again!

some hypocritical mofos up in here, there's not a poster on here that wouldn't take advantage of that if placed in the same scenario, I'm not against it either so long as that is a wake up a call and the guy learns his lesson, that's something impossible to predict though

Most of us here wouldn't put ourselves in this situation in the first place. No reason to ever drink and drive, it's foolish and puts others at risk.

Not reading the whole thread but:

Would this have been his first offense?

Boy you got that right!

I wonder though what would have happened had the cop not seen him run the stop sign, that was going down hill for sure.

bullshite. Do you really want me I believe that most people on a forum related to LSU and any posters in lousiana never drink and drive? Ever? How delusional do you have to be to even type that sentence?

Sorry if you're a dumbass who drinks and drives, but not everybody is that stupid.

I have never done it! I know many others who have never done it.

don't drink and drive, but the "California roll" is my stopping technique of choice, sounds like the cop was just hunting in a target rich environment

I might have misunderstood you, but it seemed like you were saying that you're OK with what the cops and the OP did so long as friend 1 learned something from all of this.

I'm saying there is no way in hell that friend 1 had a single second of introspection about this incident and learned absolutely nothing.

that would be impossible to tell, in the same way that if the guy was prosecuted and convicted of a first offense DUI and the judge gave him probation only because he thought he'd learned his lesson, that the guy wouldn't go straight out and get blasted and get behind the wheel, no way to know except by taking the chance

Not everybody is a saint; you are correct about that. We are not all stupid, as well!

True, you never can tell. But I think the odds of him learning something are better after an arrest and a court appearance than they are after a stop and a phone-a-friend-bailout gets him out of a ticket, arrest and a free ride home as a bonus.
