Your brother insinuated that he might have wanted help but was too ashamed to ask for it. That's something that might take a long time for him to get over, the shame of hitting rock bottom and everything that comes with it. I've seen people completely turn their lives around and years later still struggle with the shame of how low they let their life get. Just be aware of that, and you and everyone else that cares about him need to tell him all the time that you're not angry or ashamed or disappointed in him, and just let him know that you love him and care about him.
Shame is a motherfricker and can poison the mind. Let him know that you don't feel any type of negativity towards him if and when he brings it up. Water under the bridge once he decides to get help.

Colin is bright, articulate, resourceful, and has a great deal of survival instinct. Had a really bad break when he was making some good changes.

How do you even help someone in this situation? I assume being an adult, you can't just pick them up and take them out of that environment. Do you just hope you can persuade them to come with you?

Addiction is something I'm not familiar with but I understand it's a big challenge. But it seems he has a family that loves him and Colin seems to have the strength of character to endure

Wow man, what are the odds. I hung out with Colin and Sampson quite a few times, years ago, and they always treated me like a friend despite not knowing them very well. They are good people. Happy for you Sampson, hopefully Colin will decide to get some help.
