re: Multiple planes briefly diverted from New Orleans to Baton Rouge after debris on runway

Saw two jets coming into BTR from the MSY direction this morning. Wondered if they were coming from elsewhere and being looped around Ryan Field for a different approach. Maybe they were, but it would explain them being out of place.
Unrelated: BTR has an assload of traffic. I worked near there a few months ago—probably a half mile from the northern edge—and I lost count of the planes that flew over the couple of hours I spent working up a pole.

This should've been NEW's time to shine. Those jet pilots are just chicken.

Could be worse..."Sorry folks we have to land at an airport without a jetway 50 miles from New Orleans on a short runway. We will be landing in beautiful Houma."
"On a good note, we will not leave the plane we will just refuel and wait until the dumb fricks clean up the mess at MSY and we will be back in the air...Thank you for flying Spirit..."
Spirit airlines would probably charge an extra fee for getting you to your destination.
Side note: My worst flying experience was being stuck on a runway at a small airport in the middle of nowhere Russia in winter because a winter storm shutdown Sheremetyevo just as my plane from NYC was getting ready to land. Glad I was in first class because someone clogged the crapper in couch and it got so bad that they had to open all the doors to ventilate the airplane.

I have a quick story. I saw the plane from Austin flying over Delta Farms (east of Larose) this morning.
South Lafourche Parish is in the flight path of many flights from Florida to Texas, Nevada, California, etc. and I see passenger jets all the time, but they are always at cruising altitude. Also the normal flight paths into MSY are far enough away that the commercial jets are never at low altitudes in that area.
My first thought when I saw it was, damn, he must be in trouble to be flying that low in that area. Then I saw that he was turning around and heading north. I just figured he was much farther from the normal south to north approach to MSY for some unknown reason.
Now I know why he was there.
Flightaware - Skywest flight 4016 from Austin to MSY path
I saw it when it was at its southernmost point turning around. According to Flightaware it was at only 4,800 feet at the time. Almost looks like it might have been heading to the Galliano airport for a bit before turning. It was an Embraer 175 which is small enough to land in Galliano (I think).

We once had a plane land at MSY and one of the tires came off. I'm not sure what was funnier....the two guys on a belt loader picking it up off the runway or the captain telling us the conversation between him and the F/O seeing the tire roll past them.

Demons have nothing better to do than to throw a bunch of crap on a runway, throwing off flights?
