Yes, I’m getting old. I’m reaching the point where when my contacts are in, I’m having trouble seeing close up. When my contacts are out, I see up close really well.

Can anyone share their experience using multifocal contact lenses? What type and brand do you use? Is it a better option than having to carry around reading classes?

Didn’t even know multifocal lenses were a thing.

Just use one contact lens.

I had them for a few years with the last eye doctor and they were fine. Comfortable.

I don’t have them anymore with the new guy, so I guess they weren’t what I needed.

I've tried them, but they don't work well for me due to an astigmatism.

I tried every brand, but no luck.

Readers suck.

Hoping my vision levels off so I can get lasik then wear for up-close contacts.

I’m not good with commitment. I’ve heard some people regret having one eye adjusted for close and one for far.

I may try the advice for only using one contact.

I’ve had them. They suck. I do better wearing one regular contact.

Mine is slight so it wasn’t an issue.

To be honest I didn’t notice much difference. But my eyes are terrible and really fricked up anyway

Hence, only jumping objects that will fall if hit

I'm in the same boat. It's either multifocal contacts or bifocal glasses. I think I'm gonna just go get Lasik done and wear reading glasses.

The whole reason I wear contacts is because my eyes (cursed blue eyes) are light sensitive and I have to wear sunglasses most of the time. I don't like photo-gray or transition lenses as they give me headaches. At least if I get Lasik done I can still wear my sunglasses and if needed get a set with a magnification in them for reading (or just carry a pair of "cheaters" with me) and pull off my sunglasses if I'm trying to read something in the sunlight.

You people that wear contacts for your bad eyes are just as bad as people that shave their head to hide being bald

Once you have Lasik, contacts are not an option.

To stay on topic with the original post question......I would try 2 different contacts in each eye. One for up close and one for distance. If you can adjust to this and wear them, when you get older and (possibly) need cataract surgery you can have a distance lens and an up close lens installed.

Or you can just have a multi focal implant and have both dist and near in each eye

I have the same problem, whenever I wear two contacts, I need reading glasses just to read things up close. My left eye is my good eye, almost 20/20, its the right eye that drags my sight down. My optometrist suggested just wearing one contact, so I did and I now I don't have a issue with seeing up close or far away. It took a little getting use to it, but it worked out.

I've worn contacts over 20 yrs, gradually going from 1.25-1.75. Now I'm pulling menus and pill bottles far away to read them.

I didn't think Lasik could do bifocals. You'd have to get one eye for each distance.

I'd love to be wrong here.

i wear them...they take some getting used to.
honestly i'm just treading water with my eyesight until i can get lens replacements

in other words, you need to try them to see if you can deal with them. otherwise, wear readers with your contacts

I got used to them very quickly. I like them. Certainly better than carrying two pairs everywhere.

They are not the best for driving though. There are fuzzy spots on the periphery of multi focal lenses. So I would get a pair of driving glasses with the right prescription and leave them in the car. Zenni gives you the option to purchase a second pair with just that 1 prescription on it for very cheap when you buy multifocals online.

Have been wearing them for 2 years, love em...as they get old they do t seem to work as well but I just toss out and put in a new pit. I don’t really ever have to use reading glasses.

The LASIK only helps fat sight, you’d still need readers.
