lunch special is awesome. $5.55 for whatever you order + fried rice and soup or egg roll.

I remember when Cane's first opened a decade ago and don't really recall that at all.

I recall the one opening up directly across from Graham Central Station. There was always a line wrapped around the drive through.

Johnson's Boucanerie Old Tyme for po boys Bon Temps Taco sisters French press Blue dog Shade tree cafe - broussard Fat pats Rusted rooster Racheals Charley Gs Chinese: China one - and it's not even close Corner bar as mentioned - laffy and youngsville Downtown - JSP, legends and greenroom are the only I go to Artmosphere Blue moon Bisbanos - blues/jazz in the basement as mentioned Side bit: I love going kayak at lake Martin just outside of down.

That's a hell of a list. I can see myself pulling up this thread, while wandering around drunk.

Though I'm not sure I can go to blue dog. I remember staying close by one year at festival international, and heard it was good. But after five years in Nola, I'm sick of seeing that damn blue dog

I bring my own but there's a place to rent. I'm sure you can paddle board there, but there's a frick load of gators.

Other nearby places:
Whiskey chitto is fun to kayak as well, but that's a bit of a drive.

Then there's horn island about 7-8 miles south of ocean springs. Camp on the island. It's pretty awesome. Definitely a good idea for a 3 day weekend type of deal and a good drive.

I've gone behind Acadian village (cool place to check out as well if you've never been) to launch out of a few times. There's a kayak launch just behind the parking lot.

And as far as hiking if you're into that (places relatively close):

Clark Creek is awesome

As the owner of a PitBull, dog fighting really pisses me off. But me and my buddies have talked about starting a nutria fighting ring. I think I might be able to finally make it happen.

he's not joking, most ULL fans have little brother syndrome and hate LSU bc we are so much better than ULL so they root for bama

This is a true statement. Before ULL starting winning there was no hatred for Lsu like their is today

Posted by hendersonshandsJSP has very good burgers, mayne. I'd definitely recommend that spot. Tap Room has apparently changed and is nowhere near as cool as it used to be. Depending on where he's going to live, there are two Corner Bar locations. French Press Bread and Circus Provisions Charley G's Social Blue Dog Jolie's You can get great food at all of those, most of them have a Cajun flare. I don't remember if Social does. Charley G's has the best duck and andouille gumbo of all time. As far as sushi, they're kind of holes in the wall but Fuji and Oishi are my favorite places. Pizza -- Pizza Village and Deano's for sure. I like Mellow Mushroom too. The Cajun Spice pizza at Romacelli is my shite too. Breakfast - The French Press -- Cajun benedict dawg. Also, Sweet Baby Breesus and the Chicken and Waffles Mexican - Mayas Restaurant, another hole in the wall but it's the shite. Agave for atmosphere, the food is pretty decent. El Potrillo on the Northside is good and cheap too. Po-boys - Olde Tyme Grocery is a staple. I like The Villager's po boys in Maurice, they have the best fried oyster po boys IMO. Julien's and Chris' are pretty good too but Olde Tyme and Villager are my top two. Try out Johnson's Boucaniere on St. John street, I fricking lvoe that place. They have a lot of smoked meats, homemade boudin as well. Their pulled pork is awesome. They do a sauce piquante on Thursdays too I believe that's tasty. I'd also suggest going to Joey's across from Cajun Field for a tasso sandwich. Dessert - Indulge for sure. Creme brulee and tres leches cakes are en fuego. There's so much more that I just can't remember right now but I personally guarantee all of my suggestions.
no need to go all Farley on me. I finally drank some coffee, and saw it between the flame posts.

I'll probably be at Charlie D's within the first couple nights. Boucaniare sounds like the spot I'll get my Cochon de Lait.

Does Old Tyme make a good roast beef po boy? For that matter, where is the bread coming from? I know they aren't shipping leidenheimer that far away, are they?

I've seen places selling po boys in different cities, including here in Denver. But their bread sucks. It's grocery store French, not Nola French.

I'm not sure where they get their bread but it's really good. LINK

They have a great shrimp poboy and the Olde Tyme special is really good -- it has roast beef, ham, turkey and swiss.

I didn't know there was a place to launch there. I've camped in the Acadian Village parking lot during Black Pot festival, and it's a really cool venue setup.

Although, after an all you can eat Cajun cook off, there is an insane amount of farting going on under the pavilion. But between the food and dancing, plenty of farts work their way out.

But I think I picked with more claw hammer banjos that first weekend, than in my entire life.

No doubt. I hope their meats are homemade, and not cold cuts. I miss a good sloppy roast beef.

I am curious a little about lake Charles. Is it as nasty and polluted as I've heard? I probably would've grew up in Louisiana of it weren't for a covered up industrial accident, and my dad being an engineer, and knowing what was in the soils. But that was the 80s. I'm curious what it's like nowadays.
