how so?

also your own links admits that 70% of marriages today cohabitate before marriage, yet divorces are decreasing dramatically

yet you want to argue that cohabitation leads to more divorce?

Here you go. Except, silly me, it completely contradicts what he's claiming.

quote:

In the last two years, newer research has suggested that the risk associated with premarital cohabitation may be receding. Sociologists Wendy Manning and Jessica Cohen found that for marriages formed since the mid-1990s, living together before marriage did not raise the risk of divorce. In fact, for a minority of women with higher than average risks of divorce – women with a premarital birth, women raised in single or stepparent families, or women who had had more than the median number of sex partners – living together while engaged was actually more protective against divorce than moving directly into marriage.

One month after we got married
6 months after we started dating
Oh, and I was a young Marine too

Basically, I should have been a cautionary tale to other Marines, but 9 years later and we are still together

As I said, it has to do with the age of marriage. Regardless of all other factors.

Divorce statistics and facts

Relevant stats:

quote:

The average age for couples going through their first divorce is 30 years old.

quote:

60 percent of all divorces involve individuals aged 25 to 39

If 50% of people who cohabitate prior to marriage get divorced and 0% of people who wait until marriage to live together get divorced, it would still show a decrease in the divorce rate of millenials compared to boomers.

well no, you can't just toss out the fact that many of these people are also cohabitating, which is also why the age is increasing

because they are taking a few years to cohabitate before marrying which is pushing the average age up

true

but if 70% of people getting married today cohabitate, and cohabitation leads to more divorce, that would absolutely NOT lead to a decrease in divorce rates

I'm 58, never been married. Someone asked me if I was in favor of pre-marital sex, and I said, Hell, that's the only kind I've ever had!

Sorry you're an idiot.

Study on Cohabitation in the United States

Cohabitation Trends & Patterns

Approximately 1% of couples in 1960 lived together prior to marriage. The divorce rate in 1960 is half of what it is among millenials.

From the previous study I posted:

60 percent of cohabiting couples will eventually marry. However, living together prior to marriage can increase the chance of getting divorced by as much as 40 percent.

If you are a female serial cohabiter – a woman who has lived with more than one partner before your first marriage – then you’re 40 percent more likely to get divorced than women who have never done so.

---------------------

Cohabitation leads to more divorces. Children born out of wedlock have more negative outcomes, statistically.

Sorry so many of you shacked up before getting married and knocked up your girlfriend. Doesn't mean you're a bad guy or you're going to Hell, don't worry.

I won't be posting anymore, point has been made.

Like I posted in the other thread....divorce was still pretty taboo in society in 1960 so of course divorce rate is lower.

Sorry you're melting in the face of contradictory facts.

I'm married and have never fathered any children despite living with 2 separate women.

You didn't prove any point. You posted facts that were contradicted then melted about it, picked up your ball, and went home.

It was been widely observed that lower education levels and poorer employment status positively affect the propensity to cohabit (Cherlin 1992; Raley 2000; Seltzer 2000; Smock and Manning 1997).

this is a key factor that is seemingly way more important than the cohabitation argument because education level and income are strongly related to divorce

I did the whole awkward jerk off in a doctor's office and leave your jizz container in the lockbox on the wall thing last year. All good to go.

7 months before we got married.

Raise, lower the toilet seat and the rest is smooth sailing.

Oh, no slam lids.
