Tons of guys who starred in one sport.

If you’re talking athletes who played at a high level in multiple sports, you’ve got Thorpe, Bo, and Deion.

Every single list should include Tiger Woods.

Honorable Mention

LeBron (hate him, but let’s be honest here)

Wayne Gretzky

You've officially lost every shred of credibility you may have had with that stupid arse statement.

Jesse Owens
Tiger Woods
Michael Jordan

All dominated their sport like no other.

It feels like I should name either a football or baseball player since these sports are such a big part of American history, but having a hard time choosing.

Tom Brady is the goat of super bowls, but not a great athlete. Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Bo Jackson were the most gifted football players but didn't win enough to put them ahead of Brady in a team sport.

Babe Ruth was dominant and an icon, but Hank Aaron hit more HRs which seems to be the most common measuring stick for baseball. Bonds had help, so not counting him.

Nicklaus was better than Woods. Bo Jackson never even ran for 1,000 yards in a season. If you frame your selections as “most iconic” instead of greatness, you get to another set of 4 that’s more recognizable or more would recognize as a casual visitor.

I don’t care that Nicklaus has more major wins than Tiger. If Jack had Tiger’s medical issues, he wouldn’t have gotten as many majors as he did.

And the 2019 Masters is debatably the greatest sporting event of all time. The Miracle on Ice and the 2008 Super Bowl are the only other ones in the debate. Just read the More Sports Board Thread from Tiger Hole 16 and beyond: Tigerdroppings MSB
