The Black Hills of South Dakota are like an oasis of interesting in the overall sameness of the prairie.

got your hills and deadwood and the Devil's Tower over in Wyoming and the badlands and Rushmore and the Big Indian monument that they will never seem to finish.

The touristy things would only interest you once but it is a pretty area. The touristy aspect does mean you have more dining options than you otherwise would and Grand Rapids is a town of about 70K so it has all your non-big city amenities.

Favorite places:

Boundary Waters of Minnesota if your into kayaking/canoeing, fishing & camping. It's right on the border of NE Minnesota & Canada, absolutely beautiful during the summer & fall.

Door County Wisconsin is another place that is awesome but it get's a lot of tourist from Chicago, but I've met quite a few people from the south up there Salmon fishing.

As a city I don't think Kansas City gets enough credit that place is awesome.

Hayward, Wisconsin. I've never been but my parents & their friends go up their every year to cross country ski & do 50 year old things. Sounds like a cool place.

Sat on the curb in Enterprise and ate a box chicken lunch there. Wasn't the best lunch, but was some of the best scenery around.

Beautiful Area.

Lake Chelan in Washington too.

Deadwood South Dakota- Cool as can be and beautiful. In many ways it is preserved the way it was with modern casinos.

Black Hills should be a must for everyone.

Southern Utah.

The drive on the two lane State Route 95 (Bicentennial Hwy) from Blanding to Hanksville (or vice versa) is incredibly breathtaking.

The views on Route 95 change every 10-20 miles from Ancient Indian (Feather) Ruins to Natural Bridges to Red Rock Canyons to the Colorado River and the isolated Henry Mountains. You'll run into a dozen cars on the whole journey. This is the most beautiful drive I've been on in America. Plenty of pull offs where you can go exploring/camping without a soul in sight. Most of this land is Bureau of Land Management, which means you can pretty much do whatever you want!

The Dry Tortugas, Fort Jefferson, is the most beautiful place I've ever been to in the U.S.

Just got back from visiting the gf in Philly. We made the drive out to Jim Thorpe, PA...really cool place for a weekend get away. I also think Philly is a great city, people like to knock on it...but I've never had a bad experience there. Much prefer it to NYC.

I've always wanted to go. On my bucket list. Those old CO cowboy towns call out to me. Telluride too...
