ETA- there is such a thing as a "combined statistical area" which includes Athens, but the "metropolitan statistical area" that you referenced does not.

Yes that's obv what I was referring to.

+ The Athens - Clarke stat area is under 200k people so I don't really consider that a city. But whatever.

Yeah, metro areas are usually much more purple. The city limits themselves are always blue but usually, the suburbs are pretty red.

Austin is 30% republican and they are the one’s with all the money and own the big companys.

Austin's biggest employers are the school district, government, tech companies, and healthcare. I would say from personal experience, teachers and healthcare can go either way. Government is obviously employing people on both sides.

But if you think companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, and Dell aren't heavily trending Blue, I don't know what to tell you. I work in Tech and it's one of the most liberal industries out there.

It's literally the opposite of plant baws.

I see a lot of people are listing Jackson/Memphis and places like that

I see a big difference between majority Black Democrat and Liberal

I don’t see Jackson as very liberal at all

This is very true and something few people talk enough about.

When you really break it down, black people are not liberal at all. Neither are most Hispanics. Especially Hispanics from Central America.

The GOP really missed the boat on this.

Thanks, LBJ.

Agree. I've been to Miami a good bit and have Cuban friends there. It is not a liberal stronghold

Can't speak to Miami Cubans but I can tell you that the Cubans in New Orleans do not like liberals/Demos

I spent a few summers around Asheville. That is exactly how I'd describe the city. I picture a Subaru driving dude in a flannel shirt with a man bun and beard drinking a craft beer at Wicked Weed after spending the morning hiking in Pisgah National Forest.

Damn. Sounds like my kind of place. Minus the man bun, that's what I call a good time.

In fact, as a general rule, all non whites are pretty socialist. Seemingly, all non British or non Swiss descended people are like this. Who else values freedom?

Interesting. These are the most economically successful people on the planet. What a coinkydink

Your numbers are 19 years old. It is over 200k.

Many students don't participate in the census. They'll be on their parent's census.

Many Hispanics don't participate. The fact only 4% of the demo reports as Hispanic is laughable. Huge illegal immgrant pop, lots of chicken farms and processing.

They’re fiscally very left wing. Just not socially liberal.

If it has a Walmart, it's a city.

Athens has two Walmarts.

And five, countem five Waffle Houses.

Most definitely a city.
