Irreversible with Monica Belluci had a couple of scenes that wouldn't leave my head.

That constant whirling background noise with all the spinning camera shots and those two scenes. Good God.

Book: Devil Incarnate ""Athlon Visor", mercricnary in the South African wars. Assumed that he assisinated Swedish Prime minister Olaf Palme sometime in the 80's, which is more humane than what he did in this biography.

Book is a tie between the Road, Columbine, and American psycho. The zoo scene in the latter is awful but that scene with the rat... the film version of the road isn't a lot better. What gets me is that I know if faced with that kind of a reality (nuclear winter where no vegetation can survive) it's probably going to be a similair story once people lose hope and their humanity. Of all the bad things that happen to the Dad and his kid, it always stuck with me that the mom/wife just gave up on everything. I was in college when I read Columbine. Pre-9/11, that was the biggest national event that had a direct effect on my life (school protocols and behaviors were a lot different and it was the first time the news meant anything to me; remember watching it unfold live at home and the 24 hour news cycle that followed). Reading through the reality of what led up to it and how it all happened made it feel even worse.

Film is Salo or 28 Days Later. Former is just evil, latter really affected me when I saw it when it first came out. Everything from the opening to when he finds his parents to the dad telling his daughter he loves her before...

I'll throw Koko out there. Pretty disturbing stuff in that one. The Vietnam flashbacks are disgusting.

Defending Jacob
While this fiction work is not really disturbing, there were some uncomfortable parts in the book that at least make you think about life and murder, etc.

Why does everyone say Requiem for a Dream is disturbing? That's one of those movies I'll watch anytime I see it on tv.

It's actually a trilogy. .

The Divine Comedy, which although his circles, seem very much close to modern Christanty. Beautrice as his guide, can't cross...never mind u would have to read it, but.... Dante, got kicked out of Italy for writing it and he invented the current Italian language. I am not a nerd !!!

I remember going into the theater to see Saving Private Ryan having no idea what I was in for. The opening scene was very disturbing for obvious reasons, but I think it was the first time someone truly captured the horrific landing these soldiers endured on film. I remember looking around the theater and people were in shock. I also remember walking out (it was packed) and seeing elderly gentleman (in their 60's and 70's) sobbing like little kids. It really shook me up and gave me a greater appreciation for those soldiers that participated in D-Day.

I know, I studied Italian for 7 years and had to read the thing.

That's why I was asking which one did you mean was more disturbing: Inferno or Purgatorio?
